ABU DHABI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The 2010 World Expo, slated for May 1 to Oct. 31 in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai, will provide an opportunity for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China to enhance their mutual understanding, officials said Wednesday.The UAE is the first country to complete the "base-build" of its own pavilion at the Expo, with the exception of China's national pavilion, the state news agency WAM reported.The UAE pavilion will carry the Gulf nation's message to the people of China and many other countries, Saqr Ghobash, chairman of the National Media Council that is coordinating the project, was quoted as saying."We are particularly focused on the theme of Expo 2010 -- ' Better City Better Life' -- because we recognize that this resonates very deeply with the UAE's own experience," he said.Ghobash added that the UAE government and people have made huge strides towards creating a modern society that respects its past whilst embracing the present."We have much to share with our friends and partners in other countries. HEFEI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were killed in a traffic accident in east China's Anhui Province Wednesday, police said.A five-seat minibus, carrying nine people, made a head-on collision with a passenger bus with seven people onboard at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mengcheng County of Bozhou City.The minibus was running on the wrong lane when the accident took place, police said.Seven of those on the minibus were killed at the site and two others died later in hospital after first-aid efforts failed.

BEIJING, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- A cold front is expected to sweep the northern part of China over the next three days, bringing strong wind and a temperature drop, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said Sunday.Small to moderate snow or sleet is forecast in the northern and southwestern part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, western Tibet Autonomous Region and the northeastern part of China.The cold front will cause a temperature drop of four to six degrees Celsius since Feb. 15 in central and eastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, north China and northeastern China.The central and the eastern part of China will see a temperature drop of three to five degrees Celsius.Areas in Hunan and Guizhou provinces would expect freezing rain over the following three days.The CMA also said the blizzard condition which had stricken eastern Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces had eased to small to moderate snow or sleet.The National Meteorological Center had cleared the blizzard warning by 6 p.m. Sunday, 24 hours after the issuance, the CMA said.
