CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police have arrested six suspects in an assault with a deadly weapon and robbery of a 16-year-old boy that occurred at a Chula Vista restaurant last Thursday, law enforcement officials announced.Police officials said that four juveniles and two adults, all of whom are suspected of participating in the April 11 attack, were taken into custody on Wednesday. Four of the suspects, aged between 15- and 17-years-old, attended Morse High School and have since been suspended.The two adult suspects, Kent Pasunting, 18, and Aldrin Uy, 19, attended Mark Twain High School, an alternative/continuation high school with a campus located at Morse High School. WATCH: Otay Ranch family upset over violent video"Chula Vista Police worked cooperatively with representatives of the Sweetwater Union High School District, the District Attorney’s Office, and several other officials. The victim and family, along with representatives of the Cotixan restaurant, all cooperated in the investigation. Officials with the San Diego Unified School District helped police to identify the attackers," said Chula Vista Police Department Captain Phil Collum.The incident was captured on cell phone video and posted to social media by the teen's mother. All six suspects were identified, in part, by the video, Collum said.The family says their teen was waiting for his mom to pick him up at Cotixan Mexican Restaurant last Thursday after school, when a group of teens walked in and started kicking and punching the boy.In the video, you can see someone on the ground getting repeatedly punched and kicked. At one point in the seven-second clip, you can see someone throw a chair on the teen.Family to hold protest outside Chula Vista restaurant after violent video surfacesThe boy's father, Margarito Martin, tells 10News he was shocked when he saw the video. He says everything started days before on Instagram, when, he says, his son told someone to stop harassing one of his friends. Martin says one teen then started messaging his son telling him he was going to beat him up.Martin says the incident was reported to Chula Vista Police but he's worried the teens will get away with what they did.Collum said the dispute began last month when the victim and suspect got into a heated exchange on social media over comments made to one of the victim’s friends. "On April 11th the victim and his girlfriend were sitting at the Cotixan restaurant when the suspects walked-in unexpectedly," Collum said. "Police believe the suspects entered the restaurant with the intent to attack the victim.""The suspects confronted the victim and the group began assaulting him," Collum said.The victim suffered a fractured left wrist. 2745

(KGTV) - The family of the man found in a barrel in San Diego Bay, near Chula Vista, is working toward closure two years after he disappeared.Omar Medina’s body was found Oct. 12, 2017, after a diver found a white, 55-gallon drum floating in the bay. She's the oldest of three and stepped in as an extra parent growing up, as they didn't have a father."This is the thing I cared about most growing up, he [Omar] was like a child to me," Villegas said.Thinking about her 28-year-old brother, she dreams of what could have been, "going to his wedding. I miss not meeting my nieces and nephews, I miss not having cousins for my kids." She spoke publicly for the first time this year at Chula Vista Police's Evening with Heroes fundraiser."Once they came in I felt a weight lifted off my shoulder[s] and that's what they've meant to me, they have definitely been that strength I'm not," she said police showed her family kindness and empathy."[Detectives] who put their photo on their desk and said they're out there. They're going to find who's responsible for killing Omar," Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy said."I slept under this very table here in the office because that's how important it is and how much dedication we need to put in these cases," Sergeant Lavar Brown said in a video played during the fundraiser.Chief Kennedy explained the annual event funds programs the department would otherwise have to do without, "for instance our Canine program, our Senior Volunteer program, our Explorer program," she said their innovative Drone program is also funded through donation dollars.The work they did on Medina's case, will felt by the family long after it's closed."I know I'm just a kid," Omar's nephew Arturo Jr. said at the podium, "but what happened to my uncle hurts me just as much as it did the rest of my family and I'm glad I got to share it with you." (KGTV) - A new music school is open in the South Bay, teaching kids to play instruments with a less-classical approach."We're not the little old lady down the street with a metronome," says owner Mark Sheffield.He opened the School of Rock at Otay Ranch Town Center after his wife had to drive through traffic to take their son to classes in Liberty Station."Later on that evening, I asked how did it go, did you have fun? Yes, it was a blast. He loved it. We want to do that again. But we're not. But we're not ever doing that again. It was a 45-minute drive there and an hour and a half drive back," Sheffield explains.He says opening a South Bay location gives kids in that part of the county an option to learn music in a fun, modern way."The students learn music by playing it in an environment that fosters a true enjoyment for what they're doing," he says. "They're going to want to come anyway, and hang out with friends, and they're going to end up learning."School of Rock offers lessons for kids starting at age 3, no matter the skill level. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay family spoke about the frightening moments that took place when a police chase ended in front their home and then turned into a shootout on their driveway Monday afternoon.Mark Yturralde said his son-in-law had the quick thinking and presence of mind to shut the door to prevent a suspect, later identified as David Angulo, from getting into their home on Rutgers Avenue.“I didn’t have time to be kind or nice. I had to shove my wife and granddaughter into a closet, and I told them to stay low, keep quiet, don’t come out until I tell you. I tried to watch from a corner,” said Yturralde.RELATED: Carjacking, pursuit leads to deadly officer-involved shooting in Chula VistaAccording to Chula Vista police, Angulo was a known gang member wanted in connection with at least three shootings in June. Police said Angulo carjacked a pickup truck in an area near Main Street, refused to pull over for officers, and led a pursuit into east Chula Vista.Police said Angulo lost control of the truck and crashed into a car driven by an active-duty military member. While the other driver was seriously injured, Angulo got out of the truck and ran to a family’s driveway.Angulo, according to police, opened fire at officers -- the exchange of gunfire that Yturralde said went on for several minutes. Shots struck and flattened the tires of vehicles parked in the driveway, but none of the bullets penetrated the house.Yturralde and Chula Vista police credited Yturralde’s son-in-law for keeping the incident from turning into a hostage situation, or worse.Angulo was killed during the shootout, and police said an investigation will determine how many shots were fired and who opened fire first. Police will also review officers’ body camera footage.Police promised the investigation findings will be released in a timely manner.The three officers involved in the incident were not injured.Family members said they found five shell casings in their backyard. They told ABC 10News they are grateful to police but also offered their condolences to Angulo’s family, even though he put their family in danger. 2145

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) --  Thursday was a big day for Norbert Stein. The Holocaust survivor and war veteran, got married and turned 105-years-old. 10News Photojournalist Zach Wonderlie was there for his big day. "He's been in and out of hospitals so many times that I thought I was planning a memorial...and then I was planning a wedding!" said Norbert's daughter, Livia Gail, "It's such a miracle." Norbert escaped Nazi Germany in 1935, Gail said.Norbert married the love of his life Thursday - his girlfriend of 45 years, Edlemira Velasquez. The happy couple enjoyed the ceremony, a little cake and all of their loved ones on their milestone day. Gail left us with a few words of wisdom from her father: "Nothing too big, nothing too small.
