SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who had more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit when she crashed her SUV head-on into another vehicle while driving her three young daughters through Rancho Bernardo pleaded guilty Friday to felony child abuse and drunk driving charges. Mayra Alejandra Troncoso, 30, had a .29 percent blood-alcohol content when she drove on the wrong side of Camino del Norte on Nov. 12, 2018. Her SUV crashed head-on into an oncoming 2011 Jeep Liberty, causing severe injuries -- including a skull fracture and a brain bleed -- to her 9-month-old daughter, who was riding unrestrained. The defendant's 2-year-old daughter suffered facial injuries and her 8-year-old child broke a bone. The 57-year-old driver of the other car suffered broken bones, authorities said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman who pointed what turned out to be a pellet gun at two San Diego police officers who followed her into a downtown parking structure during the Rock-N-Roll marathon is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.Mona Elease Williams, 59, pleaded guilty in September to a pair of felony counts of resisting an executive officer by threat or violence. She faces a maximum of eight years and four months in state prison.On the third day of the defendant's preliminary hearing three months ago, Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon dismissed allegations that Williams personally used a deadly weapon in the crimes. He said that because he couldn't prove that the pellet gun was loaded, the allegations had to be dismissed.Williams -- who has convictions for burglary in 1986 and assault in 2003 and was sent to prison in 2015 -- would have faced 62 years to life behind bars if convicted as charged.The defendant's good friend, Lisa Wilson, testified that Williams texted ``death by cop'' hours before the June 3 confrontation with officers. In body-worn camera video recorded as Williams was arrested, she is seen frantically trying to explain to Officer Ronald Hamilton that she is bipolar and off her medications.``She told me she wanted to harm herself,'' Hamilton testified. The officer said Williams was acting erratically, breathing heavily and was showing signs consistent with someone under the influence of methamphetamine.Minutes earlier, an officer followed Williams after a motorist trying to find a parking space told the officer that Williams -- driving Wilson's car -- hit her from behind and took off. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An Italian restaurant in Encinitas agreed to pay ,800 to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit filed by a former employee who alleged her hours were substantially cut, and she was ultimately fired, after she told her employer she was expecting, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced Tuesday.After informing the owner in 2015 that she was expecting, the server was told that she "should stay home since she was pregnant, that her pregnancy had caused coverage problems, and that (the owner) would offer a position with less pay for more work so that she would not come back from her pregnancy leave," according to the complaint filed against Maurizio Trattoria Italiana LLC.She was fired in the summer of 2015, while less experienced servers were hired, according to the complaint.RELATED: Lawsuit aims to stop California's AB 5 from taking effect"Women should not be penalized for having children," said Christopher Green, director of the EEOC's San Diego office. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who was operating a panga boat carrying several undocumented immigrants when it capsized off the coast of southern San Diego County earlier this year, killing two men aboard, was sentenced today to nearly seven years in federal prison.Julio Cesar Murillo-Arce, 42, pleaded guilty earlier this year to federal charges stemming from the Feb. 3 boating accident off the coast of Imperial Beach.He was sentenced to 78 months in prison in connection with the boat fatalities, and an additional five months for violating the terms of his supervised release stemming from a separate maritime alien smuggling conviction last year, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.According to court papers, Border Patrol agents spotted the boat in the early morning hours of Feb. 3. It began experiencing engine trouble about 150 yards off the coast, prosecutors said, then eventually became inoperable.Prosecutors say Murillo-Arce told the others aboard not to identify him as the boat's captain, then dove into the water.The boat was capsized by a large wave, sending all six occupants into the sea. Four were able to make it to shore, but Ramon Ponce-Rodriguez and Modesto Rodriguez-Ballesteros did not.Ponce-Rodriguez was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, while Rodriguez-Ballesteros was initially hospitalized in critical condition and died Feb. 4.The surviving occupants of the boat told investigators that the boat's captain abandoned the vessel and swam away, despite being told some of the people aboard could not swim. The boat's occupants -- or someone else on their behalf -- paid between ,000 to ,500 each to be smuggled into the United States from Mexico, according to the criminal complaint.``This is yet another tragedy that never should have happened,'' said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. ``This defendant and others like him care only about their bank accounts and their own safety.
