A Black Lives Matter group had gathered waiting for a caravan of President Donald Trump supporters that never showed.Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles draped with flags and banners in support of Trump snarled traffic around the New York metropolitan area Sunday.According to The Associated Press, a large caravan of Trump supporters traveled through Rockland and Westchester counties and Queens, in some cases stopping traffic without further incident.In addition, videos posted online showed hundreds of vehicles at a standstill around noon in the northbound express lanes of the Garden State Parkway near Lakewood, New Jersey. NEW YORK, N.Y. – Rush Limbaugh provided an update on his "roller coaster" battle with lung cancer Monday, saying a recent scan showed “some progression” and that it’s “in the wrong direction.”The conservative talk radio host has been seeking treatment since he announced in February that he was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.In a statement posted on his website, Limbaugh said his scans had previously shown that his treatments had “rendered the cancer dormant,” meaning they had stopped the growth of the cancer.“It had been reduced, and it had become manageable,” he said.Limbaugh said he has stage 4 lung cancer and that his team has adjusted his chemotherapy drugs with hopes of keeping additional progression at bay as long as possible.“The idea now is to keep it where it is or maybe have it reduce again. We’ve shown that that is possible. If it happened once, it can happen again,” he said. “So that’s the objective of the current treatment plan.”Limbaugh did address that his cancer is likely terminal.“It’s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I’m under a death sentence are over. NEW YORK (AP) — A new government report shows that since the coronavirus pandemic began, the U.S. has seen 300,000 more deaths than it usually would.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking how many deaths have been reported and comparing them with counts seen in other years. Usually, between the beginning of February and the end of September, about 1.9 million deaths are reported. This year, it’s closer to 2.2 million – a 14.5% increase.The CDC says the coronavirus was involved in about two-thirds of the excess deaths. CDC officials say it’s likely the virus was a factor in many other deaths too. For example, someone with heart attack symptoms may have hesitated to go to a hospital that was busy with coronavirus patients.The largest segment of the excess deaths, about 95,000, were in elderly people ages 75 to 84. That was 21.5% more than in a normal year. But the biggest relative increase, 26.5%, was in people ages 25 to 44. Deaths in people younger than 25 actually dropped slightly.Deaths were up for different racial and ethnic groups, but the largest increase – 54% – was among Hispanic Americans.According to a printed study in the Journal of Hospital Medicine, since the pandemic began, the mortality rate among hospitalized patients dropped by 18 percentage points.Researchers said the patients in the study now have a 7.6% chance of dying, whereas they had a 25.6% chance of dying at the start of the pandemic. 1465

NEW YORK (AP) — A new federal report shows vaping rates among U.S. teenagers fell dramatically this year.The drop comes in the wake of last year's outbreak of vaping-related illnesses and deaths.The national survey found that just under 20% of high school students and 5% of middle schools students were recent users of electronic cigarettes and other vaping products.That marks a big decline from a similar survey last year that found about 28% of high school students and about 11% of middle school students recently vaped. That's a decline of about 1.8 million teens total.The survey was done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They looked at survey data from middle school and high school students, grades 6-12.Despite the progress in lowering the number of teens using e-cigarettes, there are 3.6 million youth who currently use them. Of those, almost 83% use flavored e-cigarettes or vaping products.In addition to the survey, the FDA announced their premarket review requirement of tobacco products to ensure they go through a “robust scientific evaluation” before hitting store shelves. 1156
