Sen. Kamala Harris — the first Black woman to be included on the presidential ticket of a major political party — will highlight the third day of the DNC on Wednesday evening.Harris, the junior senator from California, will deliver the final speech of the evening on Wednesday, just over a week after former Vice President Joe Biden announced her as his running mate.Harris will deliver her acceptance speech on a night with the theme, "A More Perfect Union." She'll also be closing out an evening with several other high-profile speakers.Former President Barack Obama is slated to give the penultimate speech of the evening. STAMFORD, Conn. – Former professional wrestler James Harris has died at the age of 70, according to a statement from the WWE.Under the name Kamala, the company says Harris battled the greatest stars in sports-entertainment history, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Andre the Giant.At 6 feet 7 inches tall, the towering entertainer was referred to as “The Ugandan Giant,” according to the WWE.“He terrorized opponents and thrilled audiences in Mid-South, World Class Championship Wrestling, WCW and WWE until 2006,” wrote the WWE.The wrestling organization didn’t elaborate on how Harris died, but it may have been due to the coronavirus. Several people were hurt in an "inmate-on-inmate" disturbance at CoreCivic's Red Rock Correctional Facility in Eloy, Arizona on Sunday morning.Twelve inmates were taken to outside medical facilities for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, and one staff member was treated and released for minor injuries sustained in the incident, according to Jonathan Burns, CoreCivic's Director of Public Affairs.Burns says the disturbance happened just after 8:30 a.m. local time.The facility has been secured and all inmates and staff are accounted for, Burns said. CoreCivic is working with the Arizona Department of Corrections and local law enforcement as they continue to investigate.   724

Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she is calling the House back into session this week to vote on a bill prohibiting the U.S. Postal Service from implementing any changes to operations or level of service. The action comes amid growing concerns that the Trump White House is trying to undermine the agency during the coronavirus pandemic while states expand mail-in voting options. A senior Democratic aide tells The Associated Press that House Democrats are likely to discuss the schedule on a conference call on Monday and are expected to be in session next Saturday.Pelosi sent a letter to Democratic members, stating that changes to the post office would "threaten to deny the ability of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion. These delays also threaten the health and economic security of the American people by delaying delivery of life-saving medicines and payments. In 2019, 1.2 billion prescriptions were delivered through the Postal Services, including almost 100 percent from the VA to veterans." Any changes would need the approval of the Senate and president. While it's unclear how the Senate would react to such a bill, the president said he would approve assistance for the Post Office with conditions."Sure, if they gave us what we want. Some motorcycles for the Tempe Police Department are now equipped with upright mounts for semi-automatic rifles.Sergeant Ronald Elcock said the department tested the mounts last year and decided to install them on eight of its motorcycles.In a high-risk situation, Elcock says motorcycles can usually get to a scene much quicker than patrol cars.However, until now, motorcycle officers were only armed with handguns.Elcock said that's been a growing problem, because criminals are using more high-powered rifles and weaponry."We don’t want to go into those situations where we aren’t able to keep the public safe,” said Elcock.Even though the AR-15s are highly visible on the back of the motorcycles, Elcock says they are secured with special technology.“There's a locking mechanism that would prevent anyone, except for the operator, to be able to get at the equipment,” said Alcock.Some worry about the militaristic look of the AR-15s mounted on the back of the motorcycles.“There are people that may be scared to see it,” said Elcock. "However when we explain to them the reason why we have it I think it puts them a little bit more at ease." 1153
