(KGTV) - Escondido Police shot and killed a man Saturday night steps away from the entrance to the Valley View Casino in North San Diego County, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.The shooting happened about 8 p.m. following a brief pursuit that began on the 1400 block of Timber Glen Rd. in Escondido.Lt. Rich Williams with SDSO said Escondido Police had been called to a home in that area around 7:35 p.m. for a "disturbance call."A potential suspect got into a vehicle, leading officers to the casino's valet entrance.Casino visitor Jonathan King-Cretot told 10News he was sitting near the front of the casino when he heard about four gunshots."Everyone screamed 'gun' and ran to the back of the casino," King-Cretot said. 783

(KGTV) -- A woman died early Sunday morning after her vehicle rolled over on a North County road before being struck by several other drivers suspected of driving under the influence.According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of SR-78 near Mar Vista Drive.CHP says the 33-year-old woman from Oceanside was driving her Toyota Carolla when she veered off the road onto a dirt shoulder. When the woman tried to regain control of the vehicle she hit the center divider wall, leaving the vehicle disabled.RELATED: Pregnant mom who fell asleep at the wheel crashes into Vista building, causing gas leakAfter the crash, a 54-year-old man from San Marcos struck the Corolla, ejecting the woman from her car. The 33-year-old driver of the Corolla died at the scene, CHP said, and the 54-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. According to officers, after the second crash, a 38-year-old man also from San Marcos crashed into both of the vehicles previously involved in the crash. The driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital.The drivers of the vehicles involved in the second and third crashes are both suspected of driving under the influence.The District Attorney’s office also responded to the scene after being requested by officers to aid in the investigation.SR-78 west is currently closed. (KGTV) - Loved ones are making a gut-wrenching plea for tips after a hit-and-run crash that left a man on life support, days before his wedding day."I don't know what to do without him," said Sami Johnson, the daughter of Steven Johnson"I'm heartbroken. He was my everything," said Karlene Moen, Johnson's fiancee.Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road. His first call was to his fiancee."He sounded hurt. He sounded scared, and he was pissed off," said Moen.He posted photos of his injured leg on Facebook. He told Moen a woman in a car cut him off, causing him to crash."He said, 'We locked eyes. She knows I was there ... She just left me and left me laying in the road,'" said Moen. Soon after the accident, he developed chest pains. He was rushed into surgery with a torn aorta. On Sunday morning, Johnson went into cardiac arrest. He was revived but suffered severe brain damage. He was placed on life support. Moen says the he will be taken off life support in the coming days, and his organs will be donated.His wedding planned for Saturday will now be a 'Celebration of Life' service."He'll never see me in my wedding dress that I bought especially for him," said a tearful Moen.She's hoping the driver that caused the crash will be identified.We just want justice. We want her to know she killed him and left him there," said Moen."Who could leave my dad in the road? Two young brothers in Peoria, Arizona, are hoping to bring smiles to COVID-19 patients by sending homemade cards to Valley hospitals.Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha said they created "Project Smile AZ" to spread positivity. They got the idea after listening to their parents, who are both doctors, speak about COVID-19 patients going through treatment alone in hospitals."We wanted to make them feel accompanied on their journey to get better," said 15-year-old Hurshneet. "We want to make sure everyone is fine, and we want to make sure everyone is happy."When they started, they delivered 150 cards to Banner Health. The response was so great that they decided to keep going."We've had many people reach out to us to send cards to our PO box, as well as hospital CEOs have reached out to us, sending us thank you letters to our email so that made us very proud," he said.Now, they've distributed 1,200 cards to the Navajo Nation, Circle the City, a nonprofit, and several hospitals in the Valley."It helps the patients when we give it to them, and they're saying they put a smile on their faces when they receive them as well, so that's my favorite part," said 12-year-old Pravneet.Through social media, they've gotten classmates and other groups to donate cards, but they make most of them in their living room."We come up with anything that we think would inspire the patient," said Hurshneet. University of Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins has tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Friday.According to the school, Jenkins was in self-isolation this week after learning that a colleague "with whom he has been in regular contact" tested positive for the virus. A subsequent test revealed that Jenkins had also tested positive for the virus."My symptoms are mild and I will continue to work from home," Jenkins said in a statement. "The positive test is a good reminder for me and perhaps all of how vigilant we need to be."Jenkins' test comes hours after President Donald Trump announced that he had also tested positive for the virus. Reports indicate that Jenkins was at the White House on Saturday for Trump's nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
