HANGZHOU, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official has urged members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) working in the country's non-public economic sector to work hard to make their companies into advanced and excellent businesses.The call was made by Li Yuanchao, chief of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, during a two-day study tour to Zhejiang Province, one of the regions where the non-public economic sector has been highly developed, on east China coast.The tour ended Friday.During his stay in Zhejiang, Li visited a number of non-public businesses in two cities of Huzhou and Hangzhou in order to gain a first-hand information regarding how CPC members in those ventures have been doing under a Party campaign which encourages CPC members to excel at their workposts.While addressing a symposium held Friday in Hangzhou, the provincial capity, Li said the non-public sector was "an important force for developing the socialist economy with Chinese characteristics."Li added that Party organizations and its members at non-public enterprises should try to ensure that their firms take a correct orientation of development.
BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian, the first stop of his three-day China visit.This is Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.On Sunday, Medvedev will visit a memorial to the Soviet Union war dead and meet with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).During his stay in the city, the Russian president will stop by the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages, where he will have brief discussions with Russian language professors and students. He is also slated for a meeting with leaders of northeast China's Liaoning Province.More important meetings are scheduled for Monday when the Russian leader visits Beijing. He will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and call on other Chinese leaders, including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.On Monday evening, Medvedev will travel to east China's metropolis of Shanghai, where, on the next day, he will meet with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and attend events marking the Russia Day at the ongoing World Expo, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.
BEIJING, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Monday met with nearly 60 foreign political leaders and scholars on the eve of a forum to discuss global trends and common challenges.The forum will take place in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday and is organized by the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC),the country's top advisory body.The forum's theme for its fourth conference is "new era, new challenges, new vision -- building a future for all.""It is significant for the 21st Century Forum to hold a conference on the global situation, challenges and visions," Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said.More than 100 officials, scholars and business executives from home and abroad will attend the two-day conference of the 21st Century Forum.As the world has been undergoing deep changes, transformation and adjustment, it is imperative for all countries to be interdependent, reform the international financial system and build a justifiable and reasonable world order, Jia told the foreign attendees to the forum.Among the foreign attendees are some well-known dignitaries, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former European Commission President Romano Prodi, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, former Russian Prime Minister Evgeni Primakov, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda.Jia briefed foreign leaders on China's economic and social development, stressing China remained the world's biggest developing country despite its economic boom."It will take China decades of unremitting efforts to accomplish modernization," Jia said, adding China would adhere to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Jia said China would continue to pursue peaceful development and develop friendly cooperation with all countries in accordance with its independent foreign policy.Jia reaffirmed China's efforts to play its due part in dealing with global challenges and contributing to world peace and development.Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo called for all countries to pursue a path of cooperation and common prosperity.After the meeting, Jia also hosted a welcome banquet for forum attendees.The 21st Century Forum convened its first conference in 1996. BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's President John Evans Atta Mills arrived in Beijing on Sunday evening, kicking off his state visit to China.During his six-day China trip, Mills will hold talks or meet with Chinese leaders including President Hu Jintao and top legislator Wu Bangguo.Besides Beijing, he will visit southwest China's Chongqing municipality, southern city of Shenzhen and the nation's economic hub Shanghai.
