Scammers are using websites to get your card number, pin number and drain your account. The BBB says you may also stumble upon one of the websites by searching online. In Florida, golfers play by a different set of rules. And one of the rules may or may not include ignoring giant, scary alligators.Professional wakeboarder Steel Lafferty was playing golf at the ChampionsGate Country Club in Orlando on Wednesday afternoon when he had an unexpected run-in with a gator."I wasn't too worried," Lafferty told CNN."I wakeboard professionally so I'm always in the water and I've kind of been around gators my whole life. There was a bit of a worry, but it seemed like he was doing his own thing so I let him go."In a video posted to his Instagram account, Lafferty barely acknowledges the alligator, taking a shot at the same moment it strolls by. He estimated it to be about 7 feet long.Lafferty called his encounter with the alligator a "good experience.""My shot was really good and that was really the only thing I was worried about. Laurie Sylvia, the fourth person in Massachusetts infected with Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) since the beginning of August, has died.Sylvia was being treated at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after contracting the dangerous mosquito-borne virus that causes brain swelling in humans, said Jeremy Lechan, Tufts' senior media relations specialist.The other cases of infection this month are those of two men over 60 and another man between 19 and 30.This is the first time EEE cases have been reported in Massachusetts since 2013.State epidemiologist Catherine Brown told CNN in a statement that warmer temperatures and above-average rainfall in July sped up virus replication in mosquitoes, which could explain the uptick in EEE activity.Migratory birds might have even spread a new strain of the virus, though lab tests that could prove that have yet to be completed, she said.In Florida and Delaware, the virus has been detected in sentinel chickens, though neither state has seen any cases reported in humans.EEE kills one-third of those infectedEEE is rare but potentially fatal. It’s been nearly nine months since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle. Though time has passed, those living in the remains of what Hurricane Michael left in its wake are struggling. Tyndall Air Force Base is one of the many places still trying to recover and rebuild. Hurricane Michael was the first Category Hurricane to strike the contiguous United States Since Andrew in 1992. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Hurricane Michael did nearly billion in damage. However, nearly nine months since the storm there is still plenty of damage and debris in Panama City, Panama City Beach, and Mexico Beach, where Michael hit the hardest.“Life at Tyndall prior to the storm was your normal Air Force Base,” says Col. Jeff Hawkins, the vice wing commander of the 325th flight wing at Tyndall Air Force Base. “When the storm was about to hit, we had about three and a half days to prepare. We had to recall all of our pilots and maintainers to prepare the aircraft to launch. Within 18 hours, we ended up getting 70 percent of our aircraft out.” According to Hawkins, the aircraft that weren’t able to make it out, including 17 F-22 jets, were damaged, but are currently getting repairs. “About 50 percent of them were destroyed, and 50 percent of them were able to be recovered," Hawkins explains. "The total cost for the Air Force is estimated around .25 billion for the entire recovery. The rebuild portion itself will cost around .7 billion.”Hawkins said the recovery of the entire base is estimated to take between five and six years.While no one lost their life in the storm, plenty did lose their homes. “Everybody’s got a different scenario they’re dealing with,” Hawkins says. “Some people owned homes in the community, and they are in the process of rebuilding those homes and repairing. Unfortunately, for those that lived on the base, they didn’t have a home to come back to. For instance, my family is living in Eglin Air Force Base, and I commute here three or four days a week.” Eglin Air Force base is nearly two hours west of Tyndall. However, according to Hawkins, Tyndall AFB is so vital to the military because of the training it provides and the airspace. When the storm hit, the base had to take a hiatus between 60 and 90 days. But now, training continues while the base still recovers. “The one mission that is currently not being flown at Tyndall Air Force Base itself is we have moved our F-22 aircraft to Eglin," Hawkins says. "But with every bad there’s good, so there’s an opportunity to build the Air Force Base of the future.” 2607
