SAN DIEGO — Three teenagers were taken into custody in three separate attempts to smuggle fentanyl across the U.S.-Mexico border, according to federal officials.U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the incidents occurred on March 30 and 31 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry near San Diego, California.On Friday, CBP agents stopped a 17-year-old Mexican citizen. After noticing an "anomaly" on the teen's back, agents conducted a pat down and found two packages strapped to his back. The packages contained four pounds of fentanyl — a street value of 1,000.The next day, CBP agents stopped two more male teens within 10 minutes of each other: a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old. Both were found to have packages of fentanyl strapped to their backs. The two combined were carrying about nine pounds of drugs, a street value of more than 6,000.The teens in each case were arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A disheveled man stabbed two strangers within a block of each other Friday in North Park and failed to commandeer the second victim's car, authorities reported.The unidentified assailant -- who looked to be about 30 years old and homeless -- first attacked a 25-year-old pedestrian in the 4200 block of Ohio Street about 8 a.m., stabbing him in the leg and running into a nearby supermarket parking lot, according to San Diego police.A short time later, he tried to steal a 57-year-old man's car near the intersection of Howard Avenue and 30th Street, but when the victim resisted, the assailant stabbed him three or four times in the right arm, then fled on foot to the south, Sgt. SAN DIEGO — It appears the Congressional seat vacated by Republican Duncan Hunter will remain in Republican hands, according a new scientific poll.The ABC-10 Union-Tribune scientific poll shows Republican Darrell Issa leading Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar 51 percent to 40 percent, with 9 percent undecided. The poll, released Tuesday, has a margin of error of 5.7 points. It comes after the two prior polls showed the candidates in a virtual tie for the 50th Congressional District, which comprises most of East County and stretches into southern Riverside County. The shift came because independents moved to support Issa. Last month, the poll showed Campa-Najjar leading Issa in independents by 13 points. Tuesday's poll showed a major swing, with Issa leading among independents by 14 points. That's a 27-point swing. "In the end, independents in red-leaning area tend to be more red leaning, vice versa for blue-leaning areas, and so it's not surprising that Darrell Issa, as we get closer to the election, is bringing home these independents out in East County, San Diego," said Thad Kousser, political scientist at UC San Diego.The 50th District is the county's last in which Republicans outnumber Democrats in registration, giving Issa the advantage.In an interview Tuesday, Issa said he was traveling the district from Temecula to Jamul, meeting voters with social distancing. (AP) — Two federal judges have ordered the United States Postal Service to continue to implement "extraordinary measures" to make sure ballots are delivered on-time before the presidential election.A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Postal Service to take "extraordinary measures" to deliver ballots in time to be counted in Wisconsin and around Detroit, including using a priority mail service.Chief U.S. District Judge Stanley Bastian in Yakima, Washington, issued the order on Friday after being presented with data showing on-time delivery of ballots sent by voters were too slow in the battleground states of Michigan and Wisconsin.Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson's office says delivery of ballots in the USPS Detroit district, for example, has dipped as low as 57% over the past week.
