SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The month of love is upon us, which means couples planning to tie the knot on Valentine's Day don't have long to request a ceremony with the county.The San Diego County Clerk’s office is accepting appointments for couples wanting to renew their vows or get married on Feb. 14."We are excited to offer walk-in services at our historic downtown office on the waterfront for Valentine’s Day and don’t want couples to miss their chance at a Valentine’s Day wedding," said County Clerk Ernie Dronenburg. The downtown office (at 1600 Pacific Highway, Suite 273) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for marriage licenses and ceremony appointments. Ceremonies can be performed at Waterfront Park or inside at ceremony rooks overlooking the bay.The County Clerk accepts walk-in services at its downtown location only and appointments are required at Chula Vista, San Marcos, and Santee offices.Non-confidential marriage licenses cost and an additional if a couple would like their ceremony to be performed by city staff in English or Spanish.Appointments can be made online at County Clerk's website or by phone at 619-237-0502. 1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Grossmont Union High School District is investigating an Instagram page reportedly used to rate female students. According to a spokesperson for the district, officials were recently alerted about the page’s existence, which reportedly rates the studnts based on certain features. Based on information shared with 10News, the posts rate young girls on looks and personality, among other categories. A parent within the district also posted in a Rancho San Diego neighborhood watch group on Facebook about the page. According to Airbnb, guests travel to San Diego from 71 countries and every state in the U.S. during the weeks of Pride and Comic-Con. The company also says that 41,000 people rent from Airbnb during the same time period. Comic-Con may draw the masses, but Airbnb hosts say it’s the hospitality that keeps people coming back. 471

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Del Mar Fairgrounds announced layoffs Thursday amid the coronavirus pandemic.According to the fairgrounds, staffing will be reduced by 58 percent due to a loss of revenue."Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent ban on mass gatherings, the 22nd District Agricultural Association|Del Mar Fairgrounds (22nd DAA) has suffered severe financial losses to its income streams."The fairgrounds says since March, revenues have fallen by 66 percent "Combined with the postponement of the San Diego County Fair and no patrons for this year’s summer horse racing meet, revenues are estimated to be down 92 percent by the end of the summer."The fairgrounds will give employees 120 days of continued employement with an official layoff date of October 15.“It is with a heavy heart that we must make the difficult decision to reduce staffing at this time,” said Tim Fennell, CEO and General Manager of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. “Until it is safe to host events again, reducing our staffing levels is crucial to the survival of the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We must preserve this community treasure in order to continue its legacy for future generations as an economic engine for the region and a beloved entertainment and education destination. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is paying out 5,000 after a violent police dog takedown.The man in a viral video sued the police department for excessive force.10News found out that this isn’t the first time the use of a police dog has been questioned.TIMELINE: San Diego K-9 bitesThe San Diego Police department has relied more on the K-9 unit in the last several years. Police say stats show a sharp increase in the number of times a police dog was deployed and someone was bitten from 2013 to 2016.There were also more dogs and handlers employed within that same three-year time period.Police say that has changed this year. Lt. Scott Wahl says the K-9 units have been to more than 12,000 calls resulting in only 37 bites.One of the more recent bites took place in October. In that incident, the K-9 put an end to a police chase in South Bay.Currently, there are 33 dogs and handlers. The dogs go through an initial 10-week training program followed by four hours of maintenance training a week and 15 minutes of obedience work every day. 1067
