CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) — Carlsbad Police arrested a man they believe tried to break into multiple homes early Saturday.Police say 26-year-old Esparza Alan Arias, of Los Angeles, was arrested Saturday and charged with residential burglary and other charges. Police are asking residents to check their cameras if they have any for images of Arias.Police say the first incident happened in the 6500 block of Paseo Frontera at about 12:30 a.m., though the victim didn't report it until about 1:30 a.m. Police say while inside, Arias reportedly touched the male resident while he was sleeping and woke him up. Arias then fled after being confronted, police said.The second incident happened just after 1:10 a.m. in the 2900 block of Unicornio St. Residents awoke to find Arias in their home, and he fled after being confronted, according to police.Just before 1:30 a.m., a third incident occurred in the 3000 block of Xana Way. Police say a resident of the home found Arias trying to enter and confronted the suspect through a window. Arias fled and the resident walked outside and fired a warning gunshot into the air, police added.Police were investigating the other incidents when they heard the gunshot. Arias was found nearby hiding behind a vehicle, police say.Arias was booked into Vista Detention Facility.Police ask anyone in the area to check their cameras and call 760-931-3819 to report any sightings of Arias. 1426

CAMP PENDLETON (KGTV) - A training accident on Camp Pendleton that left several Marines with severe burns may have been caused by an exposed gas line, a report from the Washington Post indicated Friday.Camp Pendleton officials said Marines from 1st Marine Division were conducting "scheduled battalion training" on land when a vehicle caught fire September 12.The 15 Marines were taken to various area hospitals.The vehicle involved was identified as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) used to transport Marines from sea to land. The AAV performed a maneuver which caused it to run over a gas line, sever it with its tire treads, and ignite the line, the Washington Post reported.The official report on the fire has not yet been released by the Marine Corps. 777

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford said Monday that the US military will not be "involved in the actual mission of denying people entry to the United States."When asked about the border mission for active-duty troops, Dunford said the military will not be coming into contact with migrants traveling toward the border."There is no plan for US military forces to be involved in the actual mission of denying people entry to the United States," Dunford said, speaking at an event at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after reportedly assaulting two Border Patrol agents as they attempted to arrest him for trying to smuggle people into the U.S. According to the agency, the incident happened around 1:17 a.m. Tuesday as agents patrolled Interstate 8 in Campo. Agents tried to stop a 2007 Ford F-350 near Kitchen Creek Road when the driver took off, leading agents on a high-speed chase. RELATED: 14-year-old tried to smuggle meth strapped to body, CBP saysAccording to Border Patrol, agents successfully deployed a tire deflation device, forcing the vehicle to stop a short distance later, but the driver got out and fled on foot. As agents searched for man, he reportedly jumped out of a nearby bush, tackling one of the officers to the ground. A second agent also responded to the scene, struggling with the suspect as well. Inside the F-350, agents found three men and one woman, all Mexican nationals in the U.S. illegally. They were all taken to a Border Patrol station for processing and the suspect, identified as a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested.
