LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One of the three Louisville police officers involved in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor is being fired. The city’s mayor, Greg Fischer, announced Friday that the police department is initiating termination procedures against officer Brett Hankison, 44.“Unfortunately, due to a provision in state law that I very much would like to see changed, both the Chief and I are precluded from talking about what brought us to this moment, or even the timing of this decision,” the mayor said in a statement.According to a termination letter obtained by WLKY, Hankison was informed of his firing Friday morning. The other two officers involved in the fatal shooting, 47-year-old Jon Mattingly and 42-year-old Myles Cosgrove, remain with the department, but have been placed on administrative reassignment, the Courier Journal reports. As part of a narcotics investigation, the officers used a battering ram to knock down Breonna Taylor’s door as they served a no-knock warrant in the early morning hours of March 13.During the incident, Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, has said that he thought the officers were intruders and fired a warning shot. The officers returned fire, shooting Taylor eight times, and she died in the hall of her apartment. No drugs were found.Thursday, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron held a press conference, where he asked for patience from the public as his office investigates the shooting.Taylor's death is one of a handful of African Americans who have died at the hands of police officers or former police officers in 2020. The killings have prompted massive protests calling for an end to police brutality across the country. 1689

Michael Hayden, a former director of the CIA and National Security Agency, suffered a stroke earlier this week, his family said Friday. In a statement, the family said Hayden, 73, suffered the stroke at his home and was hospitalized but did not provide details about the stroke's severity."He is receiving expert medical care for which the family is grateful," the statement said.CIA Director Gina Haspel offered wishes on behalf of the agency Friday afternoon for a "speedy recovery.""Mike's long career of public service & commitment to national security continue to be an inspiration to all intelligence officers. Our thoughts are with Mike, Jeanine, & their family," Haspel said on Twitter.Hayden, a retired four-star Air Force general who is now a CNN national security analyst, served during both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations. He retired as CIA director in 2009.Since then, he has been a vocal critic of both the Obama and Trump administrations. In 2014, he criticized President Barack Obama's reliance on airstrikes to combat ISIS, saying it showed a lack of commitment, and he said Donald Trump represented a "clear and present danger" during the 2016 campaign.Since Trump took office, Hayden has remained a vocal critic of the President. In August, he said he "would consider it an honor" if Trump revoked his security clearance following the President's decision to pull the access of former CIA Director John Brennan, who also has harshly criticized Trump. 1497

Many children are now schooling from home and their screen time is reaching pandemic proportions.Between online learning and self-isolation, school-aged kids that are homebound are inevitably spending more time with their digital screens. And doctors say students are paying a price, citing an uptick in everything from eye strain to migraines."I feel that a lot of kids today have more dry eye,” said Dr. Kim Le, Pediatric Ophthalmologist at Henry Ford Health System. “They’re complaining that they’re blinking a lot, or I don’t know, their eyes are tired. Headaches as well.”These digital bright lights are taking discomfort to new heights. “Sometimes that act of focusing can cause headaches,” Le added.Perhaps no one knows that more than Kelly Billings’ 8-year-old twins and her teenager.“They have headaches, more often than they used to,” said Billings. “And randomly, eye pain, almost as if their eyes are straining.”The Michigan mother is especially worried about her daughter, a regular migraine sufferer, who pre-pandemic battled a migraine every three months. "But with virtual schooling, she has one at least every week,” said Billings. “I definitely know it affects her concentration.”Trisha Rowe’s 8-year-old son, Vedder, is enduring the same battle."He will come up to me and say, 'mom, my head hurts here.' He says it feels like someone’s hitting his head."Doctors say the best way to curb eye strain and headaches for children and adults alike is by adhering to the 20-20-20 rule. How does it work?Every 20 minutes take a 20-second break and focus your eyes on something at least 20 feet away.Trisha says her son’s school has been building in what they call “brain breaks” but she’s also doing her part, making sure his computer is eye level and that he has enough space so he can look away and do his work without staring at the screen. But doctors say it’s hardly just about minimizing strain during school hours. You can’t control what the teacher makes you, but you can control the screen time outside of school and additional screen time from TV watching, video gaming, and handheld device usage has made eye health far worse. Here’s a Rebound Rundown on what you can do to help:Limit your child’s screen time use by re-focusing their free time to more outdoor play and board gamesLow light environments can help alleviate eye strain. Lower the brightness of the screen on your home TV, computer, and other digital devicesEncourage your child to eat, stay hydrated and get ample sleep- which helps minimize the severity of the symptomsOne more thing, encourage your child to hold any kind of digital media as far away from their face as possible. MENIFEE, Calif. — The family of the woman who allegedly shot three people at YouTube headquarters on Tuesday say they tried to warn police about a potential attack. The family of Nasim Aghdam also described her as a peaceful person."She was a nice person," Agham's brother, who asked his name not be used, said. "I mean maybe not today, but she never hurt any creature."Aghdam's family said her passion was preaching in favor of vegans and rallying against animal cruelty. In 2009, she was part of a PETA protest in San Diego. The family says she felt she reached the most people through her YouTube page, but her relationship with the company turned ugly when YouTube changed its filters and she began to lose followers and viewers. 759
