SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County leaders and members of the San Diego Foundation on Thursday announced the start of a new initiative that invests in community-led efforts looking to increase racial equity and generational wealth for Black San Diegans.The Black Community Investment Fund already has more than million attached to it -- funding community leaders are looking to share with organizations within the Black community.Mark Stuart, president and CEO of the San Diego Foundation, said, “Decades and decades the Black community has been held back in San Diego and not of their own doing, it’s by others.”To be considered for a grant, a nonprofit organization must meet one of four pillars.The first being education, as they are looking for projects that address systemic educational challenges in schools. Some of this funding will be used for scholarship opportunities.The second pillar is employment. Grants will be given to projects that support workforce training programs and help pay for paid internships. They want to help drive diversity in different career fields.The third pillar is entrepreneurship, as they’re looking for organizations that will help mentor and financially support new businesses.The last pillar is housing, with the hopes that money will go to organizations that will help members of the Black community buy homes.“Redlining in San Diego happened in 1936. It was outlawed decades later, but families are still feeling those effects of where they live and where they can apply for mortgages and put down their roots. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego firefighters Thursday are attempting to rescue a window washer stuck in a harness outside the fourth floor of an apartment complex in University City.The rescue started about 2:30 p.m. on Palmilla Dr. at Regents Rd. at the La Regencia Apartments.UPDATE: Firefighters lowered the window washer to the ground. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are looking for the husband of a City Heights woman found dead by her sister Monday morning.Police say 45-year-old Abdiaziz Kerow is a person of interest and is sought for questioning by detectives, but has yet to be located. Kerow's wife, 36-year-old Muna Salad Kuri, was found dead in her apartment in the 4000 block of Van Dyke Ave., police say.Family members say they last heard from Kuri on Saturday.RELATED: Woman finds sister dead in City Heights homeWhen Kuri's sister came to the apartment to check on her Monday, there was no answer and the landlord unlock the door. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is home to the nation’s largest concentration of military personnel. It also has a staggering number of veterans who don’t have a place to liveAnd, even more alarming is the number every year who take their own lives.As ABC 10News Anchor, Kimberly Hunt explains…a non-profit in San Diego lead by, and staffed by, veterans is looking to change that.There are an estimated 1,100 homeless vets on the streets of San Diego. Statistically they commit suicide at a rate of 1.5 times higher than the general population.Kyle Drake is president of Cammies and Canines Sanctuary… a veteran owned, faith bases non-profit helping veterans by providing, among other things transitional housing, structure, and therapy.On this sprawling ranch in Dulzura, they’re given an opportunity.But Cammies and Canines Sanctuary under the importance of companionship. It pairs each veteran with a rescue dog which has been schooled by their master trainers as a service animal.Kyle’s construction company builds tiny homes on the property for each vet to have a sense of place. Tony’s pest control company, Mosquito Joes trains interested veterans to work in the pest control industry, and everyone is given a sense of responsibility and respect.
