SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Public Health is warning the public after a recall was issued for nearly 50,000 pounds of sausage products due to contamination.According to the department, the products may contain pieces of white, hard plastic. Eddy Packaging Co. Inc. recalled the smoked sausage products due to the contamination.The products were sold at Walmart stores in San Diego, Chula Vista, National City, Oceanside, Poway, Santee and La Mesa.The products being recalled have the establishment number "EST. 4800" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were also shipped to food service and retail locations in Georgia, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. So far, there have been no reports of illness due to the products. Check below for a list of products or click here for a full list of locations where the products were sold: 888

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The local ACLU is now firing back at ICE officials after news broke Tuesday of a new measure in place of blocking certain calls from detainees’ being housed at the Otay Mesa Detention Center.“For the government to interfere with the people's ability to make those calls and advocates abilities to receive those calls is deeply troubling,” said ACLU senior staff attorney Mitra Ebadolahi. She’s now sent a letter to both ICE and ICE’s contractor, CoreCivic, demanding answers and writing in part, "…legally, these blockages may violate the constitution."On Tuesday, Alex Mensing with Pueblo Sin Fronteras said his number was blocked along with numbers to another immigrants rights' activist group, Otay Mesa Detention Resistance. Mensing told ABC 10 News, “Last time I checked, in the United States we're not supposed to censor people's ability to denounce abuses, to denounce medical negligence, to denounce physical assault by guards…by private prison guards or ICE officers against the people.”The Otay Mesa Detention Center has come under fire for allegations of poor health conditions and abuses inside as hundreds of people being housed there were testing positive for COVID-19.“Without more information, it does appear that his kind of blockage is either retaliatory or at least viewpoint discriminatory,” added Ebadolahi.The ACLU is demanding that ICE remove the blockage and offer a response by next Tuesday.CoreCivic referred ABC10 News to ICE which sent a statement Wednesday reiterating part of a statement from Tuesday which reported that it temporarily blocked detainee calls to a specific San Diego area phone number after calls resulted in disruptive behavior from detainees. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The final touches are going into Petco Park before Thursday's highly-anticipated opening day. But just a few blocks away from the stadium are the many faces of San Diego’s homeless crisis, where several resources and services are located. Homeless advocate Michael McConnell spends many early mornings on the streets of downtown, documenting police interactions with the homeless population. Since the Hepatitis A outbreak he’s seen the number of encampments go down, but say he's frustrated over the city’s response to fixing the problem. “I’m most frustrated that there's not a strategy that's solutions-focused, long term thinking about actually reducing homelessness versus reducing the visibility of homelessness," said McConnell. On Wednesday morning, one day before Padres Opening Day, McConnell captured several interactions with police and the homeless around Petco Park and East Village. He believes the enforcement is the city trying to push homeless people away from the stadium before thousands of people descend on downtown. “When we have to send out massive amounts of law enforcement to clear an area, to make things appear better, versus them actually being better, we know we failed," said McConnell.10News also spoke with several security guards in the area who say they witnessed more enforcement than usual. However, San Diego Police says the enforcement around East Village is unrelated to Opening Day and that no additional officers were sent to the area Wednesday morning. They say officers are in this area every day as it's one of their busiest sectors in the city. A representative tells 10News they respond to daily complaints from business and residents to address ongoing problems, including encampments, drug use, and other criminal activity.Since last summer they've responded to 5,000 of these complaints through the Get It Done app alone.The department says during each contact they always offer help to individuals. If assistance is denied they have a progressive enforcement model which begins with warnings.
