(KGTV) - A woman charged with a DUI crash that killed her passenger and seriously injured a young man changed her plea to guilty Tuesday in El Cajon court.Prosecutors said Tania Molinar was drunk when she drove her Mazda into the path of James Dotson’s Ford Ranger on Avocado Blvd. in May. The impact split the truck in two.Molinar’s passenger, David Sarabia Lopez, was killed. Dotson testified about the details of the violent crash during the preliminary hearing.Dotson has not recovered from his injuries. I was kind of the kid that rode dirt bikes, had a race truck, I like to go to the desert, go climbing, I can't do any of that. EL CAJON (CNS) - A resident at an East County independent-living facility was ordered Thursday to stand trial on a murder charge for allegedly killing a fellow resident by beating him in the face and head with a frying pan following an early morning argument.Brad Masaru Payton, 26, faces 26 years to life in state prison if convicted of the murder charge and an allegation of personally using a deadly weapon in the killing of Matthew McCarthy.Police said the violence at the transitional group home in the 1200 block of Naranca Avenue in El Cajon was reported shortly before 5 a.m. last Dec. 20. Patrol officers arrived to find a badly beaten McCarthy in a bedroom at the residence, said El Cajon Police Lt. Payton was arrested without incident.According to Miller, the victim and the defendant knew each other and lived in separate rooms. EL CAJON (KGTV) -- Multiple people were injured Thursday night when a car crashed into a Mexican food restaurant in El Cajon. The crash happened at 7:37 p.m. at the Sombrero Mexican Food restaurant located at 1501 E. Washington Avenue.Four employees were inside the restaurant at the time, according to El Cajon Police. All of them received minor injuries, and one of them was taken to the hospital.El Cajon officers tried to stop the driver of the car earlier in the evening but stopped the pursuit because it was unsafe. A short while later, the driver plowed into the restaurant. It's not clear why the officers were attempting to stop him.The driver tried to run from the scene following the crash, but officers were able to arrest him. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Police say they are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and don't believe drugs and alcohol played a part. 912

When the intruder refused to stop, the driver tried to physically block him from getting into the passenger area, Uelen said.Seeing the two men fighting, a grandmother of one of the students hurried aboard to try to help the driver. As the struggle between the three escalated, the assailant pulled a knife, Uelen said.At that point, a second bystander entered the bus and intervened.After a scuffle, he was able to pry the weapon away from Barker and pull him off the bus.Meanwhile, an older student ushered the other children to the back of the vehicle, called out for help to some parents who were still nearby and helped the young students get out of the bus through a back door and rear windows.Arriving deputies arrested Barker, a Campo resident, without further incident. No injuries were reported.Barker was not on drugs, but surveillance video on the bus showed that he was not in his right state of mind, said Deputy District Attorney Taren Brast. 2182

(KGTV) - A crowd gathered in El Cajon to honor the life of a man, killed in a hit-and-run accident, on the day he was supposed to be married.Steven Johnson - a father of six and a grandfather - was riding his motorcycle to work at a Lakeside trucking company Friday, the 2nd, when he crashed around 5:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 67 just past Willows Road.He never recovered, and passed away Wednesday.Saturday, his fiancé Karlene Moen stood in front of friends and family at their wedding venue, complete with the cake and flowers, and told them how Johnson helped and inspired so many."It's amazing to see how many people's lives he actually did touch because I've always just heard about it and I've never actually seen it," Moen said. Johnson was a sponsor for drug addicts and alcoholics. He was sober almost 16 years, according to Moen. Several men told 10News they're only here today because of Johnson. They said they became sober because Johnson truly believed in them.Moen said she and her fiancé met at an NAA meeting, "he taught me how to live my life sober, he taught me how to love my kids sober, he taught me how to be a mom sober, he taught me how to be a friend sober."As she thought about her wedding day, tears filled her eyes, "we were supposed to be married today, I was supposed to take his hand and unite as one." Wiping away tears she continued, "It's messing me up, and I almost don't want to be here, because it hurts so bad, it, I feel pain in my chest."She fretted about their wedding day, saying a week before the big day she helped him get an outfit. "I didn't get to wear my wedding dress that I picked out especially for him, that I knew that when he looked at me that he would think that I was the most beautiful woman he's seen," she said mournfully.One lasting question in her mind, "I just want to know why? I just want to know what kind of a person you are to not even help him up off the road?"His family wants the woman who left the scene to turn her self in, or someone who knows what happened to come forward, to give them closure. 2098
