(KGTV) - The parents of a two-year-old boy say they're still reliving the terrifying experience they faced in a store parking lot over the weekend.Peter Kopcak and his fiance Jennifer Lawson were backing out of the Costco parking lot on Hacienda Drive in Vista Saturday afternoon."I just seen out of the corner of my eye this guy running down between the two cars, and I didn't know what he was doing," said Kopcak.The couple said the guy tried to rip their toddler out of his car seat."He opened the car seat back door, reached in and grabbed my kid, she jumped out of the car, left it in reverse, I put it in park. I jumped out, he was trying to grab the carseat and, she pushed him and I just had to take him down," said Kopcak.Kopcak tackled the man to the ground."I took him to the ground and did what I had to do to subdue him, a bunch of people, an off duty officer pulled me off the guy and held him down told him to put his hands behind his back," said Kopcak.Sheriff's deputies arrested 37-year-old Adam Glavinic. He's facing charges of felony attempted kidnapping and being under the influence of a controlled substance."I thought he was going to take my kid and I wasn't about to let that happen, I'd do anything I could to stop him cause that's the worst nightmare, just having someone A, touch your kid, B, try to take your kid," said Kopcak.The couple was also upset to learn Glavinic was released from jail on a 0,000 bail Sunday."I couldn't stop crying when I found out, cause he will do this to someone else and who knows if it's a single mom or the husband isn't quick enough, and the guy takes off," said Lawson."I don't understand how he got out so fast. What if he tries to grab another kid or hurt someone else? It boggles my mind," said Kopcak.There's a backlog of out of custody cases due to the pandemic. WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic and Republican congressional leaders are expected to attend a briefing on border security at the White House as the government remains partially shut down and President Donald Trump asks in a tweet, "Let's make a deal?"The partial government shutdown began on Dec. 22. Funding for Trump's pet project, a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, has been the sticking point in passing budgets for several government departments.The briefing is scheduled for 3 p.m. EST Wednesday, the day before Democrats are to assume control of the House and end the Republican monopoly on government.The exact agenda, however, was not immediately clear, according to a person with knowledge of the briefing who was not authorized to speak publicly about the issue and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the top incoming House Republicans — Kevin McCarthy of California and Steve Scalise of Louisiana — planned to attend, according to aides. VISTA (KNSD) - A Carlsbad man who allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl and raped a woman he met online was charged Wednesday with 17 felony counts.Michael Fangman, 47, faces between 20 and 25 years in state prison if convicted of charges involving the minor, identified only as Jane Doe 1, and the woman, identified only as Jane Doe 2.Fangman was arrested shortly before 8:25 a.m. last Friday at his home, Carlsbad police Sgt. Reid Shipley said.Carlsbad police have been investigating since March when they received the first report of sexual assault. The 16-year-old girl contacted police on March 18 and alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by Fangman, who she had met online, Shipley said.The criminal complaint includes allegations that between March 11 and March 16, Jane Doe 1 was sexually assaulted and was given heroin by Fangman during that timeframe. He faces 14 counts related to Jane Doe 1, as well as three pertaining to Jane Doe 2, including forcible rape.According to the deputy district attorney, Benjamin Barlow, all of the alleged acts took place in Carlsbad in the month of March of this year. The judge ordered a no contact order with Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Prosecutors presented evidence Thursday against a man suspected of killing his girlfriend in Cardiff in an effort to send the case to trial. Late in the day, a judge decided there was enough evidence for the case to move forward.Henry Cowen is charged with murder in the death of 43-year-old Sabrina Lukosky. During his preliminary hearing in Vista court, attorneys heard from multiple witnesses, including a DNA expert who tied Cowen to the crime scene. Lukosky’s mother requested a welfare check in October 2019 after not hearing from her daughter for several days. RELATED: North County man accused of killing girlfriend tried to escape the country, prosecutors sayOfficers found Lukosky’s car in front of the granny flat she shared with Cowen and reported a foul smell coming from the home. A search warrant was executed a few days later, and led to the discovery of Lukosky’s body. Police said there were signs of a violent struggle in the couple’s bedroom. "There was a broken stick, a bottle that had been broken, some amount of blood, and the victim had a 1.5-inch vertical gash to her forehead," said Deputy District Attorney Marnie Layon. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office later determined Lukosky died of blunt force trauma and strangulation. Prosecutors believe Cowen left San Diego County and traveled to Los Angeles, then took a Lyft to Riverside County. They also said Cowen tried to leave the country with the help of his children’s mother.
