SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Camp Pendleton Marines were stabbed during a fight Saturday in San Clemente, a sheriff’s official confirms.The fight happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot on the 200 block of El Camino Real.The three Marines, two aged 21 and the other a 23-year-old were involved in a fight with two men and a woman.RELATED: Woman finds Marine Corps ring on Florida's Siesta Key, hopes to find ownerDuring the fight, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed all three Marines. All three of the men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The Marines were all assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines at Camp Pendleton.Deputies arrested 24-year-old Alexis Moreno-Aguirre on suspicion of attempted murder. SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Zoo has two new arrivals: a pair of endangered African penguin chicks.The zoo announced Wednesday that the fluffy chicks, named Doug and Barbara, hatched two months ago.The eggs came from two breeding couples. The zoo says it's the first time eggs laid by its adult penguins have hatched there.Staff has been working with the chicks to get them used to humans before they are introduced into the penguin colony in the next few weeks.African penguins are an endangered species. Their numbers have dropped by more than 60% in the past three decades and only 23,000 breeding pairs are known to exist.The decline is blamed on several factors, including disease, habitat destruction and lack of food from overfishing, climate change and pollution. 781

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A 76-year-old woman who died on May 24 is the first local fatality of e-cigarette or vaping-associated lung injury, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Thursday.Three vaping-associated lung injuries in young adults were confirmed in recent weeks and are the first reports of the lung illness in San Diego County since 2019.All the newly reported local cases tested negative for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, and all reported recently vaping products containing THC.The California Department of Public Health recently recognized new reports of confirmed lung-injury cases in persons vaping THC-containing products in April, after no cases had been reported since February.Since July 2019, a total of 52 EVALI cases have been reported in San Diego County residents. All patients had to be hospitalized."While our community is understandably focused on COVID-19, it is important to remember that lung injury from vaping is still a major public health concern," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. "People who vape, especially those using THC-containing products, are urged to stop."In January, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted to restrict the sale of flavored smoking products and e-cigarette and vaping devices in the county's unincorporated areas. These restrictions were proposed as a response to the e-cigarette- or vaping-associated lung injury cases in the county and across the country. Enforcement of these restrictions will begin July 1.THC-containing e-cigarette or vaping products, particularly obtained from informal sources, are linked to most e-cigarette or vaping, lung injury cases. Vitamin E acetate has also been strongly linked to the outbreak and has been found in product samples from patients and in patient lung fluid samples.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people not use THC-containing e-cigarettes or vaping products obtained from informal sources such as friends, family, pop-up shops or online sellers. SAN DIEGO — The Saturday after Thanksgiving is normally one when small businesses take center stage, but the Coronavirus has changed everything."We've been in North Park for eight and a half years, and we'd like to try to make it to nine," said Gail Higgins, who owns The Girl Can't Help It vintage shop on Grim Avenue. Higgins says in-store sales are now at about 30 percent, as foot traffic declined amid the pandemic."We give out gloves, if people want to try things on, we make sure everyone has a mask on, we keep the door locked so we can let in a certain amount of people at a time," she said. Normally the Saturday after Thanksgiving - called Small Business Saturday - is one that helps boost sales for mom and pops, with all sorts of pomp and circumstance to welcome the public. This year, the live music, and refreshments that typically line main streets aren't happening."If we want North Park and communities like North Park to be around next year, we have to pull it out this year," said Angela Landsberg, who heads the North Park MaiN Street Association.
