PETERSBURG, Fla. — A high school football player in St. Petersburg, Florida, is brain dead after collapsing during Friday night's game, according to the teen's mother.After a group tackle, 17-year-old Jacquez Welch of Northeast High School never stood back up. Paramedics rushed Welch to Bayfront Hospital where doctors discovered a pre-existing brain condition that no one knew about. They say Jacquez was born with arteriovenous malformation, also known as AVM. It's an abnormal connection between the arteries and veins in the brain. She said in a press conference Monday that her son is brain dead and his collapse had nothing to do with the sport."I don't want anybody to be scared of sports," Nelson said. "It just happened to him at an early age, doing what he loved to do."Nelson said the family is working on making her son an organ donor to seven people. The family plans to take Jacquez off life support Monday night after an honor walk at 10 p.m. at Bayfront Hospital. "I am content. This is not anything I could control," Nelson said calmly. SUNNYVALE, Calif. – A United Parcel Service (UPS) worker was planning a mass shooting at the facility he worked at in California, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety. The department says it learned of the threat Sunday after receiving a report that 32-year-old Thomas Andrews had sent text messages to his employer, threatening the shooting. Officers began investigating and discovered Andrews was the registered owner of four handguns and rifle. Law enforcement then began an extensive search for him. At about 11:15 p.m. Sunday, the department says officers spotted Andrews and attempted to stop him, but he led them in a vehicle pursuit on a nearby highway. Eventually, he was taken into custody.Detectives obtained a search warrant for Andrews’ home, where officers say they located more than 20,000 rounds of handgun and rifle ammunition, numerous high capacity magazines, five tactical style rifles, one shotgun, three handguns and body armor. “Several tactical backpacks containing ammunition were staged at the front door of the apartment where the suspect resides,” wrote the department 1127

But one Florida business believes preserving the scent of a child could be important if the child ever goes missing. According to the American Pediatrics Association, children who are on the autism spectrum have about a 50 percent chance of going missing at least once before turning 17. Having a student run away was always a fear for Kristal Franklin, executive director of Capital Preparatory in Tallahassee, Florida. "For parents, caregivers and educators, our biggest concern is that a student on the spectrum will become a runner," Franklin said. Just a few weeks ago, one of Franklin's students ran away. That child was found safe. But she knew she needed to find a away to make sure her staff is prepared if that ever happens again. That's when she found Scent Evidence K-9. "It's one more step in being prepared and being secure," said Franklin. "Knowing in our community that we have this resource that so many communities don't have, I think it's fabulous." Seven passengers were taken to hospitals when a Hawaiian Airlines flight landed in Honolulu on Thursday morning with smoke in the cabin and cargo hold, officials said.The passengers had "smoke-related symptoms," Hawaiian Airlines said in a statement.The smoke buildup happened because oil was leaking "onto hot parts of the plane's engine and air conditioning pressurization system," according to a statement released by the airline, which blamed the leak on a failed seal.Daniel K. Inouye International Airport Fire Chief Glenn Mitchell described the passengers' injuries as "minor respiratory" in nature. Snook said the crew didn't want to pump oxygen into the aircraft when there might be a fire.
