The department placed Trooper Briggs on discretionary leave with pay on August 12, after the department opened an investigation into reported policy violations on August 11.It is the Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s policy to warn, suspend, demote or dismiss any employee whenever just or legal cause exists. RICHMOND, Va. -- A 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Virginia and North Carolina Sunday morning.There have been no immediate reports of damage, nor injuries.The earthquake was recorded at 8:07 a.m. and was centered near the state line in Sparta, North Carolina, about 300 miles southwest of Richmond.Sunday's earthquake is one of the biggest to impact Virginia since the 5.8-magnitude earthquake centered in Mineral, Virginia on August 23, 2011. And the largest earthquake in North Carolina since a 5.2 earthquake in 1916."According to the U.S. Geological Survey database, the 5.1 magnitude earthquake near Sparta this morning is the second strongest earthquake to occur in North Carolina 1900," the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg Office wrote on Twitter. TAMPA, Fla. -- With a mandatory mask order underway in the city of Tampa, Will Rivera made sure every customer covered up when inside GNC on South Howard Avenue. "You can’t keep social distancing inside the store because it’s a very small location, it’s not possible. You have more than two, three customers in there, it’s definitely not possible so the safest thing to do is wear a mask," said Rivera. Rivera said he was fired last week for turning away customers not wearing face coverings. Rivera says his district manager stepped in, stating they would not lose sales over the mask mandate. "This is a store founded on health and wellness and it seems like there’s no care of health and wellness of individuals that come into the store, other than profit," said Rivera. After several attempts, GNC has yet to return any calls or emails seeking comment about Rivera's termination or corporate mask policy. Animal shelters across the country are taking part in a nationwide study that's giving animal lovers the chance to hang out with a dog.Participant Moira Hopkins loves a good happy hour. However, instead of getting a drink, Hopkins is picking up a dog at the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C. She picks up a dog named Jackie, who is part of the shelter’s happy hour program. It allows volunteers to take dogs out of the shelter and hang out with them for a few hours to let the dogs escape from the stress of that environment. “You just sort of see the tension just dissipate,” Hopkins says. “A great happy is when they suddenly end up taking a long, long nap because they don't get good sleep in a shelter because it's noisy and chaotic.” The shelter is taking part in a national study by Arizona State University to examine how getting out of a shelter, even for just a few hours, can affect dogs. Workers at the Humane Rescue Alliance say they've seen how a short getaway can help lower stress levels and even make dogs more adoptable. “When dogs appear less stressed to a potential adopter, that makes adopters want to meet them because they're calm and they're lying in their den, rather than jumping around and barking and acting all stressed out,” says Jennah Billeter, who works at the shelter. The ultimate goal is for these happy hours to lead to happy outcomes. “It has really, really good outcomes for both the human and for the dog, because the human gets to have the love of a dog and enjoy them and sometimes maybe even end up adopting them, because they fall in love with them on a happy hour,” Hopkins says.For more information, visit the 1682

She says Holly is one of the most helpful employees on staff. “It’s really fast and helps us with the speed a lot,” she says.The creator behind this artificial intelligence technology is Valyant. Rob Carpenter, the CEO of the company, says as jobs evolve and change, new jobs become available. As with most new technology, Carpenter says they’re still working out all the kinks. “It’s almost understanding the almost infinite ways to that people can ask for a cheeseburger,” Carpenter explains. “There are also the different accents you have to content with and the background noises.” While customers find the idea of Holly fun, their still unsure. “It was awkward,” says one customer. “And humans are just better and more responsive and talkative.” Carpenter admits Holly isn't the perfect employee, but he says in the next five years, you will see more robots at big name stores and fast-food restaurants."Right now, this is ground zero handling drive through,” he says. “Eventually, we are going to start seeing it in more tangible ways, where it can actually carry on a more fluid conversation."
