FALLBROOK (KGTV) - One person is dead after she was hit by a vehicle while walking along the shoulder of a road in Fallbrook with her husband.CHP officers say the 60-year-old woman was walking with her husband just after 5 p.m. northbound on the east shoulder in the 2700 block of Gird Road north of Laketree Drive. An approaching pickup truck heading northbound left the roadway and struck the woman. The truck stopped for a moment before fleeing the scene northbound on Gird Rd.North County Fire Protection District and CHP responded and crews began life saving measures at the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead. Her 60-year-old husband was not injured.The truck involved in the crash is described as an older model pickup truck that's dark in color. The truck will likely have damage to the right front side.Investigators were reviewing surveillance footage from the area to learn more about what happened.Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspected vehicle or information about the crash is asked to call CHP at 858-637-3800. 1060

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - An Encinitas restaurant is closed for deep cleaning after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.Kris Buchanan owns GOODONYA on S. Coast Highway 101. She closed the restaurant Sunday afternoon as soon as she found out her employee tested positive."Ironically, one of my best employees with the mask, like she never took that mask down," Kris Buchanan.Buchanan arranged for her staff of roughly 40 people to get tested for the virus antibodies Monday afternoon. If they test positive for antibodies, she'll pay for them to get the coronavirus test.The organic restaurant will reopen July 3, but only for pick up and delivery. Buchanan says the harassment her staff faced from some customers refusing to wear a mask isn't worth it."People take serious offense to that, I think, because of the health issue or maybe some sort of politically charged feeling about it, I don't know, " said Buchanan.She says fellow restaurant owners are dealing with similar issues."I'm friends with a few restaurant owners in Encinitas, and it's the same thing, coming in with that fake Facebook card that went around," said Buchanan.She said while most have been supportive, some customers have also made social distancing even more difficult by complaining about where they were seated."It's just a whole bunch of rigmarole here you're just trying to get their order and figure out if they want gluten-free or regular bread and you have this added layer of nonsense on top of it," said Buchanan.Since the pandemic hit, business is down roughly 50%, but Buchanan said her employees are her priority."More than the money, it's just worth me keeping my staff happy and safe," said Buchanan.GOODONYA will reopen Friday July 3, at 7 a.m. 1757

Election officials in Georgia are expected to release a report that details the results of a hand recount of the 2020 presidential election on Thursday, a report that's expected to confirm President-elect Joe Biden narrowly defeated President Donald Trump in the state.The recount — which was prompted by a state law and is not connected to any suspected fraud — was ordered last week by Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger.Counties were required to report the results of their hand recount by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The Associated Press reports that Gabriel Sterling, the voting system implementation manager in the state, said he expects a report on the recount to be released by mid-day Thursday.Georgia is the final state that The Associated Press has not yet called for either candidate.Prior to the recount, Biden held a lead of about 14,000 votes statewide. While a handful of counties have reported that the hand recount found a few Trump votes that had not been counted, the new tally is only expected to shift the vote count by a few hundred votes.On Wednesday, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond directly disputed an allegation of a "vote error" levied by State Republican party chairman David Shafer. While Shafer alleged that the error affected the count by more than 9,000 votes, Thurmond called the claim "unsubstantiated." (KGTV) - The Encinitas City Council hopes that a compromise on a controversial bike safety plan will be able to satisfy casual cyclists who feel Coast Highway is not safe, as well as sport cyclists who like being able to zip along current the bike lanes.The route through the Cardiff community between Encinitas and Solana Beach is believed to be the most frequently ridden corridor for bicyclists in San Diego County.The debate began when the city began looking at replacing the current bike lanes with "protected" bike lanes. These will use curbs and bollard posts to separate the lanes from vehicle traffic.City Councilmember Kellie Shay Hinze believes this plan will make the area safer for commuters, beach-goers, and families who would prefer a safe option to ride bikes over driving. Furthermore, she believes there will be environmental benefits, as well."If residents are able to access this beach on foot or by bike, then we free up parking spaces for people that might be coming from farther away and we reduce the congestion that we generate as a city on our roads," Hinze said.However, avid sport cyclists believe protected bike lanes are more dangerous."That is a trap to a cyclist going fast," said cyclist Karl Rudnick. "I would never ride in that."Rudnick explained that funneling all cyclists into lanes divided from the road by curbs and railings gives cyclists who are riding at high speeds nowhere to go when attempting to pass by slower riders. He was surprised to hear that there were safety concerns along that portion of Coast Highway."It was a real eye opener to realize that there's a lot of people who don't ride their bikes who find that stretch very dangerous- the very stretch that I consider the safest, most beautiful stretch in the county," said Rudnick.Rudnick and Hinze both support the compromise plan. While the city will move forward with the protected lanes, it will also paint "sharrows" in the #2 lane of the highway. These indicate to drivers that cyclists have equal right of way to use that lane of traffic. There will also be signage to let drivers know cyclists have legal access to the highway. This is part of an education process to allay fears that many drivers do not know what sharrows indicate.City staff are still working on the specific plans and there is currently no timetable for installation. 2378
