SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released officer bodycam footage of a fatal shooting involving a man in Mountain View earlier this month.San Diego Police say 39-year-old Jose Alfredo Castro-Gutierrez was shot and killed after officers responded to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 5 a.m. on Oct. 19 over reports of a violent disturbance involving a weapon.According to police, Castro-Gutierrez was staying at a home as a guest when the residents were woken up by him. He had reportedly been acting paranoid and ripped a metal curtain rod from a window and began breaking windows and other objects in the home.Video shows Castro-Gutierrez crawl through a window in the front of the home and run toward police, before officers fired their weapons and fatally struck him. A metal pole was found near him.Three officers fired at Castro-Gutierrez: One officer fired a bean bag round, another officer fired a Taser, and a third officer fired several rounds from his service pistol, SDPD says.Officers started first aid at the scene, but Castro-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the hospital. The officer who fired his service pistol was identified as Isai Castillo, a two-year veteran of SDPD assigned to Southeastern Division.Gene Iredale, the attorney who represents Castro’s family, says they are planning to file a wrongful death action. He says the lethal force was not warranted.“This was a tragic combination of negligence and callousness that led to a needless death,” Iredale said.Iredale says his client leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old child. He says Castro is a Mexican citizen and a legal resident of the U.S. His wife lives in Mexicali, but Castro has been working and renting locally.He says Castro also has a history of mental illness.“This was a person in a mental health crisis and was paranoid,” Iredale said. “His last word as he rushed towards the officers was ‘ayuda,’ ‘help me’”In a recorded video statement provided to ABC 10News by Iredale, Castro’s wife was emotional, saying the family is shocked at what happened, calling her husband’s death an injustice. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating what led to the death of a man while in police custody last week in Paradise Hills.Police said 39-year-old Guillermo Corrales was arrested on April 16 in the 6300 block of Clyde Ave. after reports of a relative becoming violent. Corrales had possibly used narcotics, according to police.Corrales was placed in handcuffs and medically evaluated by first responders.During the evaluation, Corrales went into cardiac arrest, according to police, and he was taken to a nearby hospital and placed on life support.He died from his injuries on Thursday.San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a possible custody death. 724

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a composite sketch Tuesday in the search for a man suspected of trying to kidnap a 3-year-old girl in the Morena area. The incident happened Sunday about 4:30 p.m. as the girl’s mother was taking her daughter for a walk in her wagon on Savannah Street at Buenos Avenue, police said. The area is residential and two blocks away from busy Morena Boulevard. A man parked his sedan but left the engine running, then approached the mother and child from behind, according to investigators. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said Thursday that the city is expected to see a major decline in tax revenue due to the coronavirus. Faulconer said the city usually takes in an estimated 0 million in sales tax throughout the fiscal year. This year, however, the city is expected to lose million in sales tax alone. Similarly, Faulconer added that the city could lose as much as million in tourism tax. The news comes the day after the famous Hotel del Coronado announced its closure amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
