CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Lifeguards in Coronado are on alert after spotting at least two juvenile white sharks Wednesday and Thursday. According to lifeguards, the sharks were at least a quarter to half a mile off the coast and didn’t appear to be engaging swimmers or showing signs of aggression. “Under existing protocol, the City was not required to close the beach or publicly report the sightings,” said City Manager Blair King. RELATED: 10 to 15 people stung by stingrays in Coronado“However, the City feels it’s important for the community to know that it takes these types of sightings seriously and is carefully monitoring the waters off Coronado. We also are working with Chris Lowe at the Shark Lab to find out more about the separate sightings and what might be going on.”Around 4 p.m. Thursday, a San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter was called in and confirmed at least two four to five foot-long white sharks off the coast. The city says a lifeguard followed the sharks as they made their way to Point Loma. The city plans to try to tag or take DNA from the sharks over the weekend. According to city officials, it’s not uncommon to see juvenile white sharks offshore. “The shark population is rising and sightings are becoming more commonplace,” the city said in a news release. 1301

Consumers will soon be able to rent tools at Lowe's.On Wednesday, the home improvement company announced that customers would be able to borrow tools at Lowe's stores nationwide, with the first rental department rolling out Thursday in Charlotte, N.C."For all of our customers, having the right tool is key to every project, but they may not always want to purchase a new tool or piece of equipment. Lowe's Tool Rental helps customers save on the cost of owning, maintaining, and storing the tools they need," said Fred Stokes, senior vice president of Pro Sales and Services for Lowe's in a news release. "As the new home for Pros, offering tool rental is just another way we are committed to keeping them working. Whether a Pro's tool fails on the job, needs a repair or they're looking to try something new, tool rental will allow them to get back to the job site faster, saving them time and money."The company said that each store's Tool Rental department will be about 4,000 square feet that would be a fully equipped mechanic shop to service tools, space for on-site cleaning and product demo areas.To rent, consumers will select the device they need, confirm the rental date, and reserve it online.The tools available for rent will be drain cleaning, restoration, sanitation, and concrete tools with brands such as Husqvarna, Bosch, and Metabo HPT.The company has 2,200 home improvement and hardware stores in the U.S. and Canada. 1446

Comedian Conan O’Brien’s 28-year run on late-night television will come to an end in 2021, O’Brien announced on Tuesday.As part of O’Brien’s announcement, the television stalwart will be producing a new weekly variety series on HBO Max. O’Brien also announced that his travel special “Conan Without Borders” will continue production.“In 1993 Johnny Carson gave me the best advice of my career: ‘As soon as possible, get to a streaming platform.’ I’m thrilled that I get to continue doing whatever the hell it is I do on HBO Max, and I look forward to a free subscription,” said O’Brien.O’Brien’s 28-year-long run on late-night TV made him one of the longest-running late-night show hosts in history, outlasting the likes of Jay Leno and Ed Sullivan.“28 years is a monumental achievement in late-night television,” said Brett Weitz, General Manager for TNT, TBS and truTV. “We’re incredibly proud of the groundbreaking work that Conan and his team have accomplished during the 10 years at TBS and are so glad that we will continue to have his presence on our air with the ‘Conan Without Borders’ specials. Cottonwood, Arizona police have arrested a 32-year-old woman in what they call, "One of the worst cases of neglect some of the officers involved have ever seen."Sarah Easterday-Shortridge faces several charges in connection with the crime. On the morning of March 10, the Verde Valley Regional SWAT team served a search warrant at a home.Officers were made aware of the residence after a person received medical treatment from being pistol-whipped by a man staying at the home the night before. Police say officers found Easterday-Shortridge's three children, all under the age of five, living in "deplorable conditions." The abandoned home reportedly had feces, trash, debris, broken glass, and rotting food throughout. Officers described the residence as a "flop-house" for drug users.The children were transported to a medical center where they received treatment and hygiene. Police say the kids were suffering from lice, open sores, scabies, bumps, and were covered in feces. The Department of Child Safety was called to the scene and the children were removed from Easterday-Shortridge’s custody, police said. She has been charged with several felonies including child abuse, endangerment, neglect or abuse of a minor and possession of drug paraphernalia.   1326
