NEW YORK -- Police took a man into custody after a 92-year-old woman was shoved and hit her head in an apparent random attack in Manhattan earlier this month.Rashid Brimmage was arrested Tuesday afternoon. The 31-year-old man faces a charge of assault, according to authorities.The incident happened on June 12 just before 3:30 p.m. along Third Avenue between 15th and 16th streets in Gramercy Park, police said.Surveillance video released by police showed the suspect shove the woman as she walked past him on the street. 530

Northwestern University in the Chicago suburb of Evanston was under a lockdown order for nearly an hour after reports came in Wednesday afternoon of a person on campus with a gun and shots fired. It turns out that the whole incident was a hoax. According to ABC News, an Evanston Police official said that the report was a swatting incident. The emergency call to police claiming there was a gunman on Northwestern's campus came from out of state.  Swatting pranks have been taking place in recent years involving a call to police prompting a SWAT unit to respond to a person's home. The prank sometimes end up being deadly. In December, a 28-year-old Kansas man was shot and killed by police after a prankster claimed the man was holding his family hostage after shooting his father. When police arrived, the man reached for a waistband, causing police to kill the man. It turns out he was unarmed, and the call came from 1,400 miles away. Northwestern University originally reported that a person with a gun was located near Engelhart Hall. Evanston Police said that several streets nearby were closed. After an initial search, Evanston Police said they could not find any victims, gunmen or crime scene. Students and employees were being told to seek shelter around 2:40 p.m. local time. An hour after the initial lockdown order, Northwestern said that only those in Englehart Hall remained in shelter. An all clear was given shortly after 4 p.m. local time.  1540

Nine West Holdings, which owns the Nine West and Anne Klein brands, has filed for bankruptcy.Friday's chapter 11 filing shows that the company owes more than billion.Nine West said in a statement that it plans to sell Nine West and its Bandolino line to Authentic Brands Group. ABG owns Juicy Couture and Aéropostale, among others.The company's eponymous brand and Bandolino both sell women's shoes, handbags and accessories.Ralph Schipani, the struggling retailer's CEO, said that the restructuring will help the company reduce debt and increase growth by allowing it to focus on its stronger brands, like Anne Klein and One Jeanswear Group."This is the right step," Schipani said. "We will retain our strong, profitable and growing apparel, jewelry, and jeanswear businesses." NEW YORK (KGTV/AP) -- Macy's is hiring more temporary workers to handle online orders for the holiday shopping season.Macy's says it will hire 18,000 workers to fulfill online orders and other tasks at warehouses devoted to e-commerce operations. That's an increase of 3,000 from a year ago. Overall, Macy's temporary hiring is expected at 80,000, down from 83,000 a year ago.The overall decline contrasts with rival Target Corp., which announced earlier this week that it was hiring 100,000 people to work at its stores, an increase of 40 percent from a year ago.
