CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Hotel del Coronado is suspending hotel operations amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Coronado Times reports. According to the times, the temporary suspension will go into effect Thursday, March 26. The hotel told the Times that security will be on-site around the clock to ensure the protection of the historic site. Guests with reservations were asked to contact Hilton Reservations and Customer Care, Rapoza said.Construction projects at the hotel would continue "to the extent permitted" by Gov. Gavin Newsom's statewide stay-at-home order along with thehealth and safety policies of the hotel's general contractor, Rapoza said.The announcement comes as 277 San Diego County residents tested positive for COVID-19 as of Wednesday afternoon. Country singer Dolly Parton is making her views on Black Lives Matter clear.“I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen,” she recently told Billboard Magazine. “And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white a**es are the only ones that matter? CINCINNATI — Jonathan Frierson of Lincoln Heights, Ohio says he's honored to have known Sen. John McCain personally as his bus driver.“Driving the 'Straight Talk Express Coach' for Senator McCain,” Frierson told WCPO. “Got started in 2000. I was a backup driver.”  By February 2008, though, when McCain was running for president and made a campaign stop for a rally at Memorial Hall, Frierson was behind the wheel and standing beside the door when McCain got off the bus.McCain had called him in 2007 to take over, Frierson said.Frierson said he liked that McCain called him by his nickname.“He always called me 'Fry,' ” Frierson said.Frierson flipped through a scrapbook and saw himself in several photos and newspaper articles with McCain, who died Saturday after a long fight with brain cancer.“Felt honored," Frierson said. One picture in a newspaper clipping from Aug. 29, 2008 showed McCain and Frierson sitting side by side at a Skyline Chili. COVID-19 will continue to impact the housing market heading into 2021.If you're looking to buy, experts say the first few months of the year are the time to do it.A housing forecast out Wednesday from Realtor.com finds mortgage rates will stay low, but only for the first half of the year.“We expect mortgage rates to increase near 3.4% by the end of the year, which would in any other year be record lows, but following on the heels of 2020, 3.4% is up a bit, but still historically low broadly speaking,” said Danielle Hale, Chief Economist at Realtor.com.Home prices have gone up by double digit percentages over the last couple of months. Some of that is expected to slow down as mortgage rates go up.Realtor.com is forecasting just below a 6% increase in home prices for all of 2021, but affordability is going to be a growing concern.“The housing market has been historically challenging for first-time homebuyers, with prices rising as dramatically as they have in the second part of 2020, first-time homebuyers are seeing a bigger gap between what they need to bring to the market for a down payment and what existing homeowners have in the way of home equity to use to trade up,” said Hale.If you already own a home, you may be thinking about selling when you see what it's worth now.Sellers are expected to continue to have the upper hand throughout 2021, with more buyers than homes for sale.You may see more competition with home construction ramping up, leading to more options available.“For existing homeowners, in particular who want to stay up in their home, the fact that we have still low mortgage rates in 2021 creates opportunities for them to consider remodeling to make their home a more suitable place for them to age in place,” said Hale.Another trend that's expected to continue in 2021 is interest in the suburbs. (KGTV) - A talented, visually impaired 11-year-old is thrilled after being chosen for her ability and character to ride on the Lyon's Club Rose Parade float on New Year's Day.The Braille Institute chose Grace Dabbieri as well as two other children to ride on the float as part of this year's theme, "The Melody of Life." If you've heard Grace sing, it's easy to understand why she placed 3rd in Coronado's Got Talent and has been called on to sing at major events."I sung for the state of the city address, for the mayor and for the concert in the park," Grace said. "Excited beyond excited," she said being chosen to ride on the float is like winning the lottery.She's always loved music, "well when I was a baby you know I would just tap on keyboards, but ever since I can remember I've been doing something with music," saying it opens up a whole new world. Grace has Optic Nerve Hypoplasia since birth. She explains her optic nerve connecting her eyes to her brain is too thin, only allowing some light in.Which means instead of seeing her living room, "it's very like blurred and messed up but hey at least I can kinda see." Her ever sunny disposition reflected by her drive to push past obstacles."My motto is disabled can do anything even though they may not be able to see hear walk talk or feel, they can use other methods to help them get through challenges," encouraging anyone to do what they love and let nothing get in their way.Those same challenges daunting for her family. "When I was born, it's kind of natural if you've never met a blind person and you hear that your daughter's blind, you're going to get a little scared. So my mom went to the Braille Institute and met this wonderful blind person... She showed mom how the blind can do anything," she said tearing up.When asked if she was getting emotional, she said yes, "I'm thinking about how awesome the Rose Bowl Parade is going to be, how wonderful my life is, and how awesome my mom is to like be there for me and help me out."Grace thinks it's amazing how technology has enhanced the lives of visually impaired people, and that's part of the reason she wants to be a computer programmer.The Braille Institute will celebrate their centennial in 2019. 2253
