Prior to the summit, the Africa tour took Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan to Zimbabwe's capital Harare and South Africa's executive capital Pretoria to pay state visits.

This is the first time that China hosts the summit of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC). The fact that we are attending the Fifth China and CEEC Economic and Trade Forum before the summit speaks to the high importance that leaders from the 17 countries place on practical cooperation. It also shows the strong political will of our countries to press for even greater progress in our economic and trade cooperation to boost our economies at home and improve the lives of our peoples.

"I am very much looking forward to this first visit of mine to Zimbabwe," Xi said. "Though I have not been to Zimbabwe, I am no stranger to this beautiful country and its people."

Liu said that the international community should actively support the political process in countries in the region to steadily achieve peace, stability and development.

China values Malaysia's role in Asia-Pacific cooperation and will work with Malaysia and other sides to implement the blueprint of regional inter-connectivity as well as other consensuses to spur economic growth in the region and the world at large, said Xi.
