KUNMING, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- Some 2,350 people in southwest China's Yunnan Province are working to put out a forest fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon, local authorities said Friday.

Since December, police nationwide have confiscated more than 230,000 boxes of substandard fireworks and detained 1,545 suspects.

Another 65.4 billion yuan of the central budget went toward subsidies for other rural and urban residents covered under the country's social old-age insurance system, it said.

However, only a few provinces and cities have enacted local legislation on public smoking bans, and no special law has been adopted at the national level.

The ministry warned of two cold fronts set to hit China over the next two days. The fronts are expected to drop temperatures in north China by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius and bring sustained rain to south China, possibly affecting railway transportation.
