SYDNEY, June 29 (Xinhua) -- A type of dried seaweed sold in Asian food supermarkets in Australia has been recalled after it was found to have high levels of iodine dangerous to pregnant women, local media reported on Wednesday.Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has ordered the recall of Wang Dried Kelp Varech Speche, a Korean brand of the dried seaweed, according to Australian Associated Press (AAP).It has been available in Asian grocery stores and restaurants in the Brisbane and Gold Coast areas of Queensland."The product contains high levels of naturally occurring iodine," FSANZ said in a statement."Regular consumption of these products may cause health problems in some people including pregnant and breastfeeding women."FSANZ said consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and should return the products to the place of purchase for a full cash refund.

LOS ANGELES, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The edge of our solar system may not be smooth, but filled with a turbulent sea of magnetic bubbles approximately 100 million miles (160 million kilometers) wide, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) said on Thursday.The finding was based on observations from NASA's Voyager spacecraft, humanity's farthest deep space sentinels, said JPL in Pasadena, Los Angeles.While using a new computer model to analyze Voyager data, scientists found the sun's distant magnetic field is made up of bubbles which are created when magnetic field lines reorganize, said JPL.The new model suggests the field lines are broken up into self- contained structures disconnected from the solar magnetic field, according to JPL."The sun's magnetic field extends all the way to the edge of the solar system," said astronomer Merav Opher of Boston University. "Because the sun spins, its magnetic field becomes twisted and wrinkled, a bit like a ballerina's skirt. Far, far away from the sun, where the Voyagers are, the folds of the skirt bunch up."Like Earth, our sun has a magnetic field with a north pole and a south pole. The field lines are stretched outward by the solar wind, a stream of charged particles emanating from the star that interacts with material expelled from others in our corner of the Milky Way galaxy.Understanding the structure of the sun's magnetic field will allow scientists to explain how galactic cosmic rays enter our solar system and help define how the star interacts with the rest of the galaxy.The Voyager spacecraft, more than nine billion miles (14 billion kilometers) away from Earth, are traveling in a boundary region. In that area, the solar wind and magnetic field are affected by material expelled from other stars in our corner of the Milky Way galaxy.Launched in 1977, the Voyager twin spacecraft have been on a 33- year journey. They are en route to reach the edge of interstellar space. JPL built the spacecraft and continues to operate them.

Rowling to launch the series of Harry Potter ebooks on Google's platform.When the series of Harry Potter ebooks launch on Pottermore.com in early October, the bestsellers will be available in the United States via Google eBooks platform, said Google in a blog post.When customers buy a Harry Potter ebook from Pottermore.com, they will be able to choose to keep it in their Google's online library in the cloud, as well as other e-reading platforms.Google said Google eBooks can be read on most devices with a modern browser, through Google apps for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, and on more than 80 e-readers.Meanwhile, Rowling will continue to issue announcements via YouTube, as she announced Pottermore.com in June.The two sides also agreed to make Google Checkout the preferred third-party payment platform for all purchases made on Rowling's Pottermore.com.Pottermore.com, which will be launched on July 31, will sell ebook and audiobook versions of the seven Harry Potter novels, as well as additional content including background details and settings.According to The Times, the Harry Potter brand value is estimated to be more than 15 billion U.S. dollars. SINGAPORE, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The over 60 nursing homes in Singapore, especially those run by voluntary welfare organizations, are facing a bed crunch, local daily Straits Times reported on Sunday.The newspaper found in a check with 20 homes that more than half of the nursing homes were running at full or almost full capacity. Homes run by voluntary welfare organizations, where there are subsidized beds, have long waiting lists.The average waiting time for a bed in nursing homes run by voluntary welfare organizations rose from 50 days in 2008 to about 60 days early last year, the newspaper said.It is easier to get a bed in a privately run home, though only slightly and if you can afford it. Econ Healthcare Group, which runs eight nursing homes in Singapore, said the occupancy rate is 99 percent and it has waiting lists of up to 20 people at some branches.Demand for nursing homes in the city state can only grow given the aging population. By 2030, the number of people aged 65 or above is projected to reach 900,000, or one in every five residents.
