She said sports have a huge impact on young women, "they have a greater chance of success professionally but also their self confidence is higher."A 2014 Ernst & Young and espnW study found 52% of female executives played sports in college. "This is one small way we can contribute to someone's success," Nowlan said, referring to the ,000 scholarship they're awarding for the first time.High school seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be pursuing college sports and have a story of overcoming adversity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 13-year-old Tierrasanta boy is battling for his life after family members say he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.A week ago Sunday, Grant Eyles started throwing up while his mother drove him and his siblings back from Los Angeles.  He quickly developed a fever, but didn't get worse until Thursday, when he lost mobility on his right side and became confused.His mother says a battery of tests pointed to bacterial meningitis, where membranes around the brain and spinal cord become inflamed, and it started with a common ailment."It was a complication essentially from a sinus infection.  The infection breached the sinus cavity and went into the brain," said family friend Vanessa Bredehoft.Over the weekend, seizures forced doctors to place Grant in a medically induced coma.  Grant remains in critical condition.County health officials say many strains of bacterial meningitis do not require an alert for person-to-person prevention, and this appears to be one of those cases.A fundraiser dubbed "Dance for Grant" is scheduled for March 3rd from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Studio K Dance and Fitness.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help with the family's expenses. 1221

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former North County contractor who pleaded guilty to several charges, including grand theft, received a five-year sentence on Monday.Prosecutors said Marc Morningstar owes thousands of dollars to more than a dozen former customers. Team 10 first exposed Morningstar in early 2017 after several people contacted Team 10 about his questionable business practices. Morningstar pleaded guilty to failure to file a tax return, two counts of grand theft of personal property, and using personal identifying information of another person. He also admitted to two misdemeanors—failure to secure payment of compensation and contracting without a license.The judge sentenced him to local custody. He will receive credit for the time he has already served, which was more than 200 days. He also owes 13 victims nearly ,000, according to deputy district attorney Amy Lafer.During the hearing, Morningstar’s girlfriend Maria Meeuwisse requested to address the court. She said she is a victim of Morningstar as well.“He will not be living with me when he gets out, whenever he does get out. He has used my social security number,” she told the judge. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two vehicles collided on Interstate 8 near State Route 79 today, injuring four people, authorities said.A black Honda sedan and a Toyota van collided near Alpine at 11:06 a.m., causing one of the vehicles to overturn and land on its roof, according to a California Highway Patrol report.Cal Fire reported four patients were taken to area hospitals.No further information was immediately available. 423
