SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection started Tuesday construction on its second border wall project along the U.S-Mexico border. The 14-mile long project consists of crews replacing existing barriers with new 30-foot tall steel bollards. The contract was awarded to Texas-based construction company SLSCO Ltd. The secondary wall project runs just north of the primary fence replacement project which started last summer. 446

A Bi-National Day of Prayer will be held at Friendship Park; a place where families on both sides of the U.S. Mexico border can meet. The group is also releasing a short film to encourage federal leaders to keep Friendship Park open. The film is called “A Prayer Beyond Borders.”“Friendship Park is the only place on the U.S. Mexico border, where families who have been separated by U.S. immigration policy, can come together,” says Dustin Craun with CAIR San Diego. Families “can physically be together.”Worshippers have been holding prayers there every week since 2011. “We can pray together when we can come together. We can break bread together,” says Imam Taha Hassane, with the Islamic Center of San Diego. Worshippers say there have been threats to close Friendship Park, but no action was ever taken. They are hoping their continued presence will show federal leaders they need this space open. “Millions of families in the United States and Mexico have no access to each other at all,” says Craun. “Closing friendship park would close any possibility of them being able to see each other.”First United Methodist Church and the Islamic Center of San Diego are calling for a day of unity for people of all faiths, for the Bi-National Day of Prayer. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection over the weekend seized more than 440 pounds of drugs worth more than .5 million.From noon Friday to 12 a.m. Sunday, officers intercepted 277 pounds of methamphetamine, 21 pounds of fentanyl, 13 pounds of heroin and 128 pounds of cocaine.The drugs were found hidden inside a gas tank, spare tire, dashboard, doors and quarter panels.RELATED: CBP stops attempt to smuggle 15 people off coast of San Diego“CBP’s detection and apprehension of contraband plays a significant role in keeping our communities safe and we remain committed to securing our nation’s borders,” said Pete Flores, director of field operations for CBP in San Diego.The drug seizure is one of many in recent months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two San Diego Naval Special Warfare sailors have tested positive for coronavirus.The sailors, who tested positive Sunday, are the first two NSW personnel confirmed with the virus in Navy Region Southwest. We have the cutting of the wedding cake and then we have photos," Ransom added.She said when the pandemic hit, it forced her Oceanside venue to close. But thankfully with quick thinking of 'mini weddings', her Fallbrook location stayed open was able to satisfy anxious couples."I feel like whenever life throws you a curve, you just got to get up and figure it out and usually its for the better."It was a popular choice for those near and far."We’re getting couples from LA, Riverside and Orange County driving down because they don’t want to travel too far."The 2-hour window let Ransom fit up to four weddings in a day and allowed her to keep costs low.
