URUMQI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) - China will upgrade an annual trade fair held in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to a leading trade platform in the heart of Eurasia and to boost cross-border economic cooperation in a region vulnerable to unrest and violence.The China Urumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair, which closed here Sunday, will be re-launched as China-Eurasia Expo beginning next year, government organizers said, and it will become an important exchange platform for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan."The upgrading is overall and comprehensive," said China's Minister of Commerce Chen Deming, who heads the China-Eurasia Expo Organizing Committee.He said the Expo will serve as China's platform to reach out to the entire Asia and Europe rather than just central and south Asia.People visit the 19th Urumqi Trade Fair in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Sept. 4, 2010. XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Preparations for China's second unmanned lunar probe, Chang'e II, are almost complete at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in southwest China, and the satellite is ready for a Friday launch, based on satisfactory weather forecasts.Weather will be the only question for Friday as the rocket's first and second stage boosters were fueled with conventional propellants Thursday, said authorities with the XSLC.Li Shangfu, Chief Director of the XSLC, said the center's Thursday weather forecast for Oct. 1, the first launch window, predicted light rain and very limited chances that thunder and lightning would occur from the time of the rocket fueling to an hour after the launch window.Further, the launch is not likely to be influenced by the high-altitude winds and the electric field on the ground, he said.The launch center will hold a meeting at 10:30 a.m. Friday to decide whether to begin the final stage of fueling of the Long March 3C rocket, the last procedure before the launch, based on weather conditions, said Li.Once the fueling of the rocket's third stage booster begins, the launch of the satellite will be "irreversible" and occur in eight hours, he said.With the help of radar and satellites, weather forecasts at the XSLC are 80 to 90 percent accurate for no more than 48 hours, and for weather conditions within four hours they can be over 90 percent accurate, said Jiang Xiaohua, a meteorological expert at the center.The rocket will carry the Chang'e II to a trans-lunar orbit, and then the satellite is expected to take about 112 hours, or nearly five days, to arrive at its lunar orbit for a six-month mission.The lunar probe will test key technologies and collect data for future landings of Chang'e III and Chang'e IV, and provide high-resolution photographs of the landing area.Chang'e II was built as an alternative to Chang'e I, which was launched in October 2007 and maintained a 16-month lunar orbit. The series of Chang'e probes is named after a legendary Chinese moon goddess.

GUANGZHOU, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers combing the mud-slide debris found more than a dozen bodies Friday, bringing the death toll of typhoon Fanapi to 70 in south China's Guangdong Province, while 65 people remain missing, local disaster relief authorities said.The bodies were recovered after work crews entered towns cut off by mud-slides such as Magui Township in Maoming City, the provincial flood control authorities said.Helicopters were dispatched Friday to send relief goods -- bottled water, food, and tents, to floods-isolated areas in the hardest-hit counties of Gaozhou, Xinyi and Yangchun, the authorities said.About nine tons of goods have been delivered on Friday.By 6 p.m. Friday, about 99,500 people in Guangdong were evacuated for the Fanapi-brought disasters. Some 3,765 houses collapsed, 42,190 hectares of farmland were damaged, and the economic loss reached 2.4 billion yuan, latest official data show.Typhoon Fanapi, the 11th and strongest typhoon that hit China this year, landed in Fujian Province at 7 a.m. Monday, but wreaked most havoc in Guangdong, which neighbors Fujian on the south.No casualties have been reported in Fujian.
