A Nashville high school football coach has been arrested on a charge of soliciting an underage student.According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, 25-year-old Weldon Garlington messaged a 17-year-old girl on Instagram asking her for sex. His Instagram profile states he is a football coach and associate dean of students at RePublic High School, a charter school near Brick Church Pike in north Nashville.Garlington was arrested late Thursday night after he allegedly confessed to police about having sent the messages.The conversation reportedly started with private Instagram messages to her over the weekend, asking the girl when she would turn 18-years-old. He also asked if she wanted to do anything with him "like sex lol." He later offered to reimburse her gas money to drive to his apartment. The affidavit claimed, the next day, he texted her saying, "My bad about all this... A Middle Tennessee woman visiting Gatlinburg with her family got quite a surprise when she found a bear outside their hotel. Kim Vastola, of Watertown was in Gatlinburg for her son’s baseball tournament and was staying on the first floor of a Quality Inn.Vastola was startled when she heard people yelling about a bear. She went outside and captured video of the bear on a tree behind the hotel before he made his way around the building. Vastola said the person at the front desk told her the "town bear" – named Robert – was lurking around but there was no need to be alarmed.Apparently, “Robert” lives in the area and roams when he comes out of hibernation. A migrant rescue ship has docked in Malta after being stranded for days in the Mediterranean amid a diplomatic dispute over which country should accept the 141 migrants on board.The migrants, including two pregnant women and 67 unaccompanied minors, disembarked from the Aquarius Wednesday at Senglea, a port city in Malta. A new study takes a closer look at the impact the amount of time children spend on cell phones, computers and TV is having on their brains.“What they're finding, or what they're reporting, is that more screen time--in fact a lot of screen time, around 7 hours a day--is associated with changes in the brain and changes in cognition,” says Rachel Barr, a developmental psychologist.Dr. Barr studies the impact TVs, computers and cell phones can have on young children.Kids between the ages of 8 and 12 spend generally six hours a day, while teens are spending nearly nine hours.While Dr. Barr agrees too much time can have negative impacts, she points out what children watch on their devices matter.“Exposure to education programing in younger children is associated with better outcomes and especially for children who are growing up in low resourced communities,” Dr. Barr explains.As for what parents can do: set time limits and ground rules, like keeping screens out of the bedroom, which can make it easier for children to fall and stay asleep.“Setting up this family media plan, being mindful of your own media use and your child's media use, even though you're being bombarded by all of these changes in media yourself,” suggests Dr. Barr. 1254
