SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — La Jolla is home to award-winning food, scenic ocean views, and possibly, America's best bathroom. That's right, the push for the country's best restroom is on and La Jolla's Hotel La Jolla, Curio Collection by Hilton, is in the running. The La Jolla hotel hopes to bowl over the competition hosted by Cintas Corporation, which provides hygiene and safety products and services to various industries. Ten bathrooms from around the country are being considered, including a bathroom with a disco ball in Chicago, a "Hobbit-inspired" bathroom in Wisconsin, and even one covered in 250 pounds of glitter.GALLERY: A look inside the La?Jolla bathroom up for best in the U.S.La Jolla's bathroom sits on the 11th floor of the hotel, flush with spectacular views of the region's coastline."Facing the coast, the large windows capture the natural, constantly changing ocean light, complementing the earth tones of the restroom interior. In this restroom, it’s common for guests to spend extra time washing their hands just to gaze out at the beautiful views," Cintas says.Bathrooms were chosen based on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality, ad unique design.Voting for the best bathroom is being held online through Sept. 18. Whichever location logs the most votes takes the throne as America's best bathroom as well as ,500 in facility services provided by Cintas. 1455

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Maverick has landed in San Diego!Eagle-eyed fans caught glimpses of actor Tom Cruise in Coronado Monday, on the set of the upcoming "Top Gun" sequel, "Top Gun: Maverick." The 56-year-old actor was spotted on a motorcycle (again) near the entrance of Naval Base Coronado by media and residents. But it's not a total surprise, as many were alerted to the possibility of filming last week, when the city posted "no parking" signs outside the base.RELATED:  500

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you're riding the bus to "Flavortown," there's only one stop in San Diego.Celebrity chef Guy Fieri was spotted at Ocean Beach's Hodad's location alongside owner Shane Hardin, the son of late owner Mike "Bossman" Hardin, on Monday. Pictures from local photographer Jim Grant show the "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" host mingling with the restaurant's crew and taking photos with fans.City of San Diego spokeswoman Alma Rife said the city had issued a "blanket permit," or filming throughout San Diego, for an untitled Food Network program from March 4-7. A Food Network spokesperson was not able to provide comment as to the nature of the filming.RELATED:Inventive eggs Benedict, dumpling soup highlight San Diego's foodie scene on YelpSeven San Diego burritos among the best in the U.S., ranking saysFieri is no stranger to the OB staple. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Last month, investigators arrested a 72-year-old man suspected of being the Golden State Killer. It could be the dramatic end of a four decades old search for the suspect.Which got us thinking, whatever happened to the cold case of the “Geezer Bandit” who may not even be a senior citizen anyway? And, could advanced technology ever help find him?He was the most elusive senior citizen during a two-year crime spree. The bank robber the FBI nicknamed the “Geezer Bandit” because of his geriatric appearance. The “Geezer”, who may have been a much younger person using a professional grade prosthetic mask, robbed 16 banks from San Diego to San Luis Obispo from 2009 to 2011. 11 of those robberies happened in San Diego County. “Profiling as you understand now is a pretty big spectrum,” says Jack Hamlin.Hamlin is a Professor at National University and professional criminal profiler. We asked him how this person, seven years later, has become the modern-day D.B. Cooper and why he, or she, would simply vanish.“We have an expression in law enforcement, we only catch the dumb ones,” says Hamlin. The “Geezer” was one of the best. Performing almost mistake free and seemingly very sophisticated. The mask may not have been his only disguise, and he was said to wear gloves, there was no known getaway vehicle, the robberies were during off-peak hours and with little security. And five of his robberies were on a Friday, payday. So, we asked the question, ‘Is it possible this person had some law enforcement training?’“It’s certainly somebody that understands how things work,” added Hamlin.  “These robberies weren’t random. He’s figured out a time when security is low; he’s figured out a time when there’s going to be plenty of cash, Friday.”The “Geezer developed a cult following with thousands of followers on Facebook. T-shirts are still available celebrating ‘Geezer Bandit for President.’ But his last robbery was December of 2011. That's the only time a dye pack was used, exploding and making the money useless, and possibly his disguise too. We haven’t heard from the “Geezer” since.“I don’t see this person suddenly having an epiphany and saying, ‘It’s over with. I don’t need to do it anymore,’” says a skeptical Hamlin.Hamlin says people like this need the rush and rarely just quit. But the one mistake the “Geezer” made on that final robbery was dropping a day-planner which he carried as part of his disguise. If it holds his DNA, Hamlin says there may be an option to use a genealogy website like investigators did to catch the person they believe is the Golden State Killer.“Now you’ve got this public DNA base, and if there is some way they can tap into that, um, the skies the limit on some of these cases,” says Hamlin.UPDATE: The FBI tells 10News there has been no change in this case since the last attempted robbery in 2011. However, the field office in San Diego is always willing to work with the community if there is new information that might lead to an arrest of the person known as the "Geezer Bandit." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Maintenance crews were hard at work at UC San Diego Tuesday fortifying campus buildings ahead of the rainstorms expected this week, all while several dorms continued to dry out from the last one.Workers shored up roofs and deployed straw wattles and 200 sandbags near the Marshall Lower Apartments. The university said 12 to 15 dorms flooded last week during torrential rain.UC San Diego said drains near the apartment complex were overwhelmed by the water and debris.RELATED: UC San Diego students reeling from flooded dorms after storm“We conducted additional drain and area inspections of the Lower apartments in advance of the rain,” the university said in a message to residents. “[Housing, Dining and Hospitality] maintenance staff will be on standby to ensure that everything holds and storm drains remain clear.”The National Weather Service said a flash flood warning will be in effect Wednesday morning through Thursday evening in coastal areas and the inland valleys. The bulk of the rain is expected to hit Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Rainfall totals through Friday could reach 1.5 to 2 inches in coastal areas and up to 3 inches in the San Diego County mountains, NWS meteorologist Miguel Miller said.UC San Diego maintenance crews were still trying to dry out some of the dorms that flooded with fans Tuesday, meaning some students have to contend with the hum of dehumidifiers while studying for midterms.RELATED: What you need to know about San Diego's Thanksgiving holiday storm“The dehumidifiers were kind of loud, but it was a constant sound so I got used to it,” said one student.Another student, Jason Rose, said not only did his apartment building flood, his car did too. The vehicle was parked in the Hopkins Parking Structure.“I was studying all night for a week, so I didn’t go to my car until four days after. When I opened my car door, it smelled terrible and when I looked inside it was just full of water,” he said.“It’s totalled probably,” he added.Rose said the university did offer to help with his insurance claim.Check 10News Pinpoint Weather conditionsStudents said maintenance crews have been quick to respond to issues, but with this week’s storms will be a test.“I’m pretty concerned,” said one student. “Especially because it seems like there’s not any long term changes right now. I know that takes longer to do, but I don’t think 10 sandbags are going to save all of our apartments.” 2466
