(KGTV) — There are more complaints against an Oceanside investment company and the man in charge of that business.Team 10 has spoken to several investors who said they gave thousands of dollars to the Pacific Teak Reforestation Project, managed and developed by Pacific Management Group. Ron Fleming is listed as the founder and chairman of the board on the company’s website.The website states the Pacific Teak reforestation project “provides individuals, businesses, and institutions around the world the opportunity to build their financial future, while saving one of the earth’s most precious and scarce natural habitats: the tropical rainforest.”RELATED: Investors say they lost thousands with Oceanside investment companyAccording to the company’s sales plan, investors paid for teak trees in Costa Rica, which would eventually be harvested and sold for timber.A certified letter shown to Team 10 listed 18 investors that demanded Fleming return their money for a project they said did not deliver. That letter was delivered to Fleming’s Oceanside home this summer.“No one’s ever seen a dime,” said investor Michael Tillman, a Navy veteran who lives in Maryland."He befriended you first," added Greg Robertson, who currently lives in Rome, Italy. “[Fleming] got your confidence, your trust. Everything. Then he betrayed you.”Mark Baker, who lives in Arizona, said he grew up with Fleming. He said he invested more than 0,000 with Pacific Teak. He has yet to see any of his money. “I’ve had to come up with a plan B for retirement,” Baker said.Another investor, Virginia Hitchcock, met Fleming in 2004. “The way that he positioned it was that the investors would pay for the trees and the land would eventually be rededicated to the rain forest,” says Hitchcock.She invested close to 0,000 in this green project. However, multiple investors said Fleming never informed them about his retirement or any hurricane damage until after they pressed him for answers.Hitchcock, now in her 60s, did not know what to do.“I just, I thought if I called the FBI, they would just laugh at me because I had done something so stupid, and gullible, and trusting,” Hitchcock said.Other investors did report Fleming and Pacific Teak to the FBI, although the agency could not confirm any investigation.There was an investigation by the state through the Department of Business Oversight, now called the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. The state issued a desist and refrain order in 2016 against Fleming and his company. It also found Pacific Management Group did not have a proper permit to operate and said the company “never gave investors the profits promised” listed in their agreements.A spokesperson with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation could not comment on any investigation related to Pacific Teak. However, he said desist and refrain orders are like probation and, “any discovery of further violation would result in an additional response.” That response could include fines, penalties, or criminal referrals.The spokesperson added that they strongly encourage anyone with concerns about Pacific Teak to file a complaint with their department.Fleming would not agree to an on-camera interview with Team 10. His attorney said Fleming did not do anything unethical in relationship to Pacific Management Group. One person has died and 16 others have become ill from a salmonella outbreak linked to kosher chicken, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.Eight people have been hospitalized, including the person who died.Illnesses were reported in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The death was reported in New York.According to the CDC, the agency began an outbreak investigation in June after several cases were reported in New York among people who said they had consumed kosher chicken."In interviews, ill people reported eating kosher chicken, and when asked about the specific brand eaten, several people reported Empire Kosher brand. The outbreak strain was also identified in samples of raw chicken collected from two facilities, including one facility that processes Empire Kosher brand chicken," the CDC said in its announcement.However, the agency is not telling consumers to avoid eating kosher chicken or Empire brand chicken. Rather, they should follow safe food preparation practices including washing hands before and after touching raw chicken and washing utensils, cutting boards and counters where raw chicken was prepared.Consumers should also cook chicken thoroughly, making sure the inside temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the temperature recommended to kill germs that cause illness such as salmonella.Salmonella illness usually begins between 12 and 72 hours after consuming the bacteria. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever and stomach cramps and can last four to seven days.The earliest illness linked to this outbreak began September 25, and the most recent case began June 4.Severe illness may require hospitalization and treatment with antibiotics. Those most at risk for severe illness and complications are children younger than 5 and adults over 65, as well as people with compromised immune systems.The youngest patient in this outbreak is younger than 1 year old, and the oldest is 76.The US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert "out of an abundance of caution," the agency said."FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to properly handle, prepare, and cook these raw chicken products."The CDC and the USDA are working with state health officials on the investigation.Kosher food is prepared under supervision to ensure that the dietary laws followed by observant Jews are adhered to. OMAHA, Nebraska — Just before 5 p.m local time Monday, Omaha Police were called to the scene of a traffic incident involving a school bus near an intersection in North Omaha. Police later confirmed the boy, 8-year-old Haji Mohamed of Omaha, had died. According to a report from OPD received Monday night, "the investigation revealed that a Student Transportation of America school bus had come to a stop along Sprague Street just east of 22nd Street at a designated student drop off location."After several students disembarked the bus, the bus driver continued her route westbound on Sprague Street," the report states. "As the bus was traveling between 22nd Street and 23rd Street, an 8-year old male child who had just disembarked the bus, attempted to run across Sprague Street from north to south. As soon as the child entered the roadway, he was struck by the bus."The boy was transported by emergency personnel to Nebraska Medicine in extremely critical condition. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the boy was pronounced dead, the OPD release states.  Early OPD reports indicated the elementary-aged boy was transported with "extremely critical injuries" to Nebraska Medicine, said Sgt. Chuck Casey of the OPD incident unit, who gave an update near the scene. Omaha Public Schools later confirmed in a statement that the injured boy is a second-grader from Springville?Elementary School, located near 60th and Girard streets, about five miles northwest of the incident.The boy's family was with him at the hospital, Casey said.Early reports indicated the boy was struck by the front of the bus — the only vehicle involved in the incident — but the scene will be under investigation for some time, he said."At this time, Omaha Public Schools administrators, Student Transportation of America and OPS Student Transportation are cooperating with the Omaha Police Department as they investigate the incident," according to a statement from OPS early Monday evening. "Administrators are also supporting and working with the family of the student."Casey said initial reports were that the boy was a passenger on the bus. On Thursday, Facebook said it would not accept new political ads in the week leading up to the 2020 election in an effort to protect the integrity of U.S. elections.Facebook also announced Thursday that the platform would remove any posts that "claim people will get COVID-19 if they take part in voting," and will add more information to any posts that attempt to suppress the vote with the threat of the virus.In addition, the company will add more information to posts that attempt to "delegitimize" the outcome of the election or "discuss" the legitimacy of voting methods.Finally, Facebook said it would add more information to posts from political candidates that attempt to claim victory before final results are tallied.
