SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police arrested two people and seized various merchandise from an illegal marijuana dispensary, an officer said today.Narcotics investigators served a search warrant at the dispensary, called Miramar Private Club, around 10 a.m. Thursday, San Diego Police Lt. Matt Novak said in a statement. The dispensary was operating in a building near the intersection of Spectrum Lane and Camino Santa Fe.Police arrested and issued citations to two employees for possession of marijuana for sale and operating a business without a permit.Officers seized six pounds of "high-grade" marijuana, more than 800 pounds of marijuana concentrates and edibles and ,300 in cash, Novak said.They also found information that led to the search of an apartment in Mission Valley, off Reflection Drive north of Friars Road, believed to be associated with the dispensary.There, officers seized an additional three pounds of marijuana, more concentrates and edibles and ,500 in cash.Narcotics detectives will continue to investigate illegally operating dispensaries in San Diego, Novak said."All owners and employees found operating these illegal businesses will be arrested and prosecuted," Novak said in the statement. 1222

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The Port of San Diego announced Monday a three-year pilot project to test the use of concrete tide pools as a shoreline stabilizing tool. The concrete company ECOncrete will analyze the efficacy of its concrete tide pools as a possible replacement for traditional shoreline-stabilizing tools like rock armoring. The concrete tide pools will also serve as ecosystems for aquatic animals and organisms that live in natural tide pools. The tide pools interlock like puzzle pieces and are made of low carbon concrete that, according to the company, is environmentally safe and tailored to the environment in which its placed. ECOncrete plans to install 72 of the concrete tide pools across three areas of Harbor Island's shoreline, according to the Port of San Diego. ``ECOncrete's Coastal Star tide pools have great potential to provide many benefits for San Diego Bay,'' said Port of San Diego Board Chair Garry Bonelli. ``The Port looks forward to seeing if they can provide shoreline stabilization, help guard against coastal flooding, and improve the ecology of our bay water.'' The project is the eighth approved in the Port of San Diego's Blue Economy Incubator, which is intended to streamline the process in which businesses can launch pilot projects for so-called blue technology. The port launched the incubator program in 2016 as a way to collaborate with businesses focused on restoring ecosystems, improving water quality and fisheries and monitoring the environment. ECOncrete plans to monitor the tide pools every six months to examine how they could replace current shoreline stabilizers in the San Diego Bay. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Restaurant chain Tapioca Express has agreed to pay more than 0,000 to settle a federal sexual harassment lawsuit involving two franchises in Chula Vista and National City, where the owner was accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward young female employees, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported Monday. Tapioca Express will pay 2,500 due to the unidentified restaurant owner's conduct toward Filipina employees between the ages of 17 and 23, according to the EEOC, which reported the harassment involved "repeated and unwanted comments of a sexual nature and physical contact," which led some employees to quit their jobs. The EEOC did not specify how many employees were harassed, but alleged that a written complaint did not lead to any changes regarding the harassment. "We commend the young women for coming forward to shine a light on the harassment to which they were subjected," said Christopher Green, director of the EEOC's San Diego office. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego City Council unanimously voted Monday to amend the Mission Bay Park Master Plan to add a large fenced-in, off-leash dog park to the southwest corner of Fiesta Island. The council considered two options to update Fiesta Island's southwest section, which is partially undeveloped. The plan dubbed ``option A'' would have reserved much of the area for a smaller fenced-in, off-leash dog park while also including a launching area for non-motorized boats, a road extension through the park and a dedicated swimming beach. Option B, which the council chose to adopt, will allocate almost all of the southwest area as a fenced-in dog park with adjacent parking spaces and walking trails surrounding it. The dog park, parking and walking trails will span roughly 470 acres, according to the city. City officials developed the amendment options to the Mission Bay Park Master Plan for roughly two years. The vast majority of public speakers at the council meeting voiced their support for option B, arguing it will preserve existing habitats and serve as the only off-leash dog area in Mission Bay Park. ``I'm a strong supporter of everything we can do to keep Fiesta Island in its most natural form,'' said City Councilwoman Jennifer Campbell. ``Preservation of open space is so very, very important.'' In addition to support for the dog park, option B's supporters argued it would cost less than option A because the city would not have to make significant modifications to the area such as adding a paved road through the park. City Councilman Scott Sherman suggested the city should look into designating the South Shores boat launching area as a launching port for non- motorized boats as well in an effort to appease non-motorized boat owners. South Shores, located across the bay from the south end of Fiesta Island, is used sparingly by boat and watercraft owners and includes all of the amenities that option A would have added to Fiesta Island. City officials told Sherman they would start the process to modify South Shores' usage. ``South Shores is incredibly underutilized and we spent a whole bunch of money building that thing in the first place,'' Sherman said. ``It would be really nice to see more utilization of that spot.'' 2275
