SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starting Monday, San Diego County residents will be able to cast their ballots early for the Nov. 3 election.The San Diego County Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, located at 5600 Overland Ave., will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to allow San Diegans to vote early.Due to coronavirus-related health and safety restrictions, voters must wear a mask and practice social distancing. There’s going to be a lot of changes in the next year or two,” Milburn told ABC 10News.Sisco added, “I had to come and vote. To be honest, I felt bad I didn’t start voting until Obama came into office. I should have been voting even back then.”Both decided to come early concerned about having to wait in long lines which election officials want people to be mindful of. Officials believe this election will bring out the county’s highest voter turnout to date.The San Diego County Democratic Party came to the Registrar of Voters to promote early voting, saying it will speed up the results.Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, the Chair of the San Diego Democratic Party, said, “If you want to have the count and not be waiting election night … The more people that vote early the better for everyone, the results will come in sooner.”In a statement sent to ABC 10News, the county’s Republican Party said they are “encouraging Republicans to vote early.”Meanwhile, officials said ballots are being mailed out on Monday to the 1.9 million registered voters in San Diego County.This summer, citing restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials said all registered California voters would receive mail-in ballots. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Steele Canyon High School is one of two evacuation sites run by the American Red Cross for people affected by the Valley Fire, but they're not housing people like they normally would. Instead, they're acting as a resource facility for families like the Roberts'."Mine was one of the only houses in the neighborhood that went up," Alana Roberts said. Her weekend was turned upside down when she got word of the Valley Fire, which went from 100 to more than 10,000 acres in less than 48 hours, claimed her home. "I was in Oceanside and we raced to get in and as soon as we were in our truck, cops said 'you need to go now'", Roberts recalled.She was able to gather just a few belongings. "It was me and my husband who went in and grabbed what we could and let animals free. I had chickens and I couldn’t get them all."And now, she's one of the dozens of people seeking relief and a place to sleep at one of American Red Cross' evacuation sites."Someone gave me dog food, food for the kids, and we have the restrooms so we can kind of wash up." These sites typically provide shelter for families seeking relief, this time around, they couldn't."Outdoor sheltering is basically what we’re doing, people are in the lots in their cars and are acquiring hotel vouchers to put people in lodging," said Earl Potts with the American Red Cross. So far, 60 people have received hotel vouchers but last night they ran out, forcing people like Roberts to hunker down in their cars, trailers, and RVs. "We figure the family will stay together, and hunker down together."The Red Cross said as the holiday weekend comes to an end, they're hoping to get at least 200 more rooms available. "We’re able to provide meals at certain times of day and a place to park and sleep which makes it less but more of a priority situation."Alana said she's just thankful her family is safe and is going to return to what's left of her home once they're given the go-ahead."I don’t know if its truly set in. This morning my husband made me coffee and I thought about my brand new coffee maker I got for Christmas. I get camping coffee to drink now, I don't think it's really set in." 2179

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's museums received a glimmer of hope following the reveal of California's new guidance.That's because San Diego County was placed in the second tier, "substantial." Now, several businesses will have to opportunity to reopen, as they did in June, with modifications indoors.The San Diego Air and Space Museum announced it plans to reopen on Monday. When the museum reopened in June, staff implemented safety policies including capacity limits, social distancing, facemasks for guests and employees, hand sanitizer stations, and continuous cleaning. Museum staff also were required to have their temperatures screened daily before entering.RELATED: Several San Diego County businesses to reopen indoors with limits under new guidanceThis time around, museums will have to limit indoor activities to 25% capacity in addition to modifications, according to the state's guidance for tier two.The museum is one of a handful of Balboa Park attractions that have been able to welcome guests back. The Nat said during its closure, it will also be seeking new sources of grant and gift funding.Museums across San Diego have been forced to stay closed for much of the summer, losing out on revenue that depends on guest tickets and merchandise in many instances."I think as time goes on we need to look at what fund-raising is possible, I think we need to look with those organizations that rely on revenue through the gate," Comiskey said.Comiskey added that conversations are planned on how to supplement lost income for many Balboa Park organizations. 2433

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego security experts advise vigilance in the wake of the U.S. attack on Iran General Qassem Suleimani.Former Marine Pilot Ed Rush says Iran's options are limited when it comes to retaliation - but its two options appear to be a cyber attack or a terrorist attack. "We've protected ourselves pretty well at home here from terror," Rush said, noting he expects any attack to be abroad on a U.S. interest or embassy. San Diego Police say they have received no credible threat and have not increased patrols. He noted San Diego is home to major military bases and is a magnet for tourism. Winn said visitors to attractions can expect more screeners when they go inside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police requested the public’s help Thursday to identify a man suspected of buying an Apple MacBook and iPhones through identity theft and credit card fraud. The man used a fake ID card with the victim’s real information to access the victim’s account at the Verizon store on Sports Arena Blvd. June 9, police said. Two new Apple iPhone X’s worth ,500 were added to the victim’s account. Police said the man also went to the Best Buy on Mission Center Road and bought a MacBook worth ,000 through the victim’s store credit card. The victim has no knowledge of how his information was accessed, police said. Investigators said the suspect is a white man in his mid 20s to mid 30s, heavy set, with short dark hair.
