Jaqi Wright and Nikki Howard will tell you their new business is anything but a piece of cake. “Trying to get ahead of everything has been a challenge,” says Howard. Last month, the sisters started selling their homemade “furlough cheesecakes” as a way to help pay bills during the longest government shutdown in history. Thanks to word of mouth, their business, The Furlough Cheesecake, took off and hasn't slowed down. They even got a boost in business when Ellen DeGeneres surprised the sisters by having them on her show. Ellen gave them ,000 to help with their business. It didn’t stop there. They got another surprise this month from one of the largest companies in the world. “We found ourselves at Walmart, being able to present our cheesecakes for a tasting,” Howard says. The meeting and taste test went well with Walmart. “Their plans are to get us in the stores before the end of the year,” Wright says. “And she told us, ‘This doesn't happen. There are people who have been waiting over year, standing where you're standing, making this presentation.’ And we came with our A game.”Walmart says the cakes will eventually be sold in stores and online. 1179

A family in Ohio says they're excited to add another family member."We’re anti-gender reveal normally,” said Love Gwaltney.Not this time — for this kid, they’re doing it big.The Akron family got a cake, a professional photographer and a box filled with balloons, but instead of something pink or blue popping out, their oldest child, Grey Schoolcraft, emerged."The gender reveal was kind of our way of telling family,” said Gwaltney.They revealed to the family their firstborn, who used to be their daughter, is now their son. MIAMI, Fla. — Miami-Dade County will have a countywide curfew as the surge of the coronavirus continues in Florida.Mayor Carlos Gimenez has signed the order for the curfew. Starting Friday, July 3, the county will have a 10 p.m. curfew until 6 a.m.Essential workers, first responders, hospital workers, food delivery services and media will be exempt from the curfew.Mayor Gimenez is also rolling back the reopening of entertainment facilities such as movie theaters, arcades, casinos (with the exception of tribal casinos), adult entertainment, concert houses, bowling alleys and other places that have recently had their plans approved by the county.That order will be signed later on Thursday.People who go to restaurants will have to keep their masks on while seated at the table. They will only be allowed to take the masks off only to eat and drink. Mayor Gimenez says if you are waiting for your meal, keep the masks on while you are having a conversation. Hospitals are also experiencing an uptick in patients, and medical professionals are seeing a rise in 18 to 34 year olds who are getting sick, Gimenez said.At this time, hospitals still have plenty of beds, but some are experiencing staffing shortages. "The death of an 11-year-old boy, reported today by the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, should send a signal to all of our community that this virus can attack anyone without mercy," Gimenez said. CHICAGO, Ill. – Scientists have identified nearly 70 drugs that could be effective in treating the coronavirus. But already, some drugs are being improperly prescribed or hoarded even before they can be adequately investigated and tested. For some who rely on the life-saving drugs for other ailments, shortages are already being felt. Across the country, some people with chronic illnesses are finding their much-needed medications are on backorder. One drug in short supply is Plaquenil, generically known as hydroxychloroquine sulfate. It’s used to treat malaria and chronic rheumatic diseases. “It prevents them from having severe pain, from their symptoms getting worse, from forming modules. This is a daily medication that these people absolutely need,” said Erin Fox, who’s with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Fox, who maintains a list of nationwide drug shortages, says four of the eight producers of hydroxychloroquine are running out. “We’ve definitely seen a rapid increase in demand for this product,” she said. “I think it’s a frustrating problem and I think it’s really scary for those patients that rely on this medication day in and day out.” While hydroxychloroquine is not FDA-approved as an off-label treatment option for novel coronavirus, it has already been touted by the president as a potential game-changer. “Millions of units are ordered, and we’re going to see what happens,” said President Donald Trump. “We’re going to be talking to the governors about it, and the FDA is working on it right now.” Last week, a French study of just 20 people reported 70% of coronavirus patients treated with Plaquenil after six days tested negative for the virus, compared to 12.5% of the control group. Hospitals across the country are stockpiling it as a precaution. The state of New York has already acquired 70,000 doses as part of its own drug trials this week. But with no large-scale clinical data available, public health officials warn it’s too early to know whether the drug is effective against coronavirus.
