BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China (PBOC), China's central bank, issued a circular Monday requiring banks to curb lending to energy-intensive industries, a move echoing government energy-saving and pollution-reduction measures.Banks must strictly review loan applications from companies in energy-consuming industries, the circular said, adding that only bank headquarters can extend loans to finance capacity expansion projects in energy-guzzling sectors.It also banned new credit to any projects not complying with government energy-saving policies.According to the circular, banks should conduct an overall review of loans to energy-intensive industries and report the results to the central bank by the end of June.The State Council, China's Cabinet, urged in early May all government departments make efforts to cut emissions and conserve energy to meet the country's target set in the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), according to which China will cut its per unit GDP energy consumption by 20 percent compared with 2005 levels by the end of 2010.

STOCKHOLM, May 9 (Xinhua) -- To mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Sweden, a Guqin concert was held in Stockholm on Sunday evening.The concert presented 12 different pieces, half of them about Guqin, some of them are the Xiao, a beautiful flute. So we are very proud and we have long been in contact with China after that," said Lindqvist."Since then cultural contacts have developed tremendously, and this concert we are giving tonight is a kind of celebration of this very important day, so we hope lot of people will come here and listen to this music because 60 years is a long period. So we want to present Guqin to the Chinese community here and to all the Swedes who are interested in the Chinese Culture," she added.

STOCKHOLM, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Sustainability expert, Professor Mohan Munasinghe who is also director general of Sustainable Consumption Institute at University of Manchester said China's development is more sustainable than the U.S. and Europe when they were in the similar development stage.In a recent interview with Xinhua in the Swedish capital city Stockholm, Munasinghe who was also Co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Prize for Peace as Vice Chairman of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) said sustainable development meant to balance the economic and social development with the damage of environment."What China proposes to develop harmonious society and especially to harmonize economic and social development and the environment is a way towards sustainable development," Munasinge said."China is more hopeful because stainability index shows that China's development is much more sustainable than the U.S. and Europe when they had similar development stage when per capita income was around 3,000 U.S. dollars he said."The second reason is that the discipline in eastern culture especially in China and Japan, you have a discipline to mix the social changes with economic development, you need a lot of discipline to bring about these changes," he said, adding that China's way of experiment in changes is very good."China often implements a pilot program and if it is good, it then promotes it in other areas and finally in the whole country and if you fail, then forget it and try new ways, this way you make the changes more beneficial than make it a total failure," commended Munasinge."China has the social capital that you make your society a consensus building society, this is Chinese social capital. HARARE, May 31 (Xinhua) – The Communist Party of China (CPC) and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote political exchanges and cooperation between the two parties.This was disclosed by Wang Gang, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee and member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, who is leading a high-powered delegation to Zimbabwe.Speaking during a meeting with Zimbabwean Vice President Joice Mujuru and senior Zanu-PF officials on Monday, Wang said the agreement will enable the two parties to consolidate relations and work together in exploring new ways to enhance ties."Guided by this memorandum of understanding for the next five years, our party-to-party relations will have a more in-depth development," Wang said, adding the MOU will see the two parties increasing high level exchange visits and sharing experiences."We very much cherish the friendship between Zimbabwe and China. We view Zimbabwe as a reliable friend and good partner," he said.Wang added China will continue to render assistance to Zimbabwe to help it develop its economy.Wang also called on Western nations to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe to expedite economic recovery in the country.Mujuru paid tribute to China for its economic and political support to Zimbabwe over the years."We know it has not been easy for China to stand by us over difficult times but as Zimbabwe we are grateful for the support," she said.She said Zanu-PF was interested in further developing its relations with CPC, especially in the area of youth and women training and political exchange programs.Wang and his delegation will be in Zimbabwe for three days.
