Students in at the Arizona College Prepatory Academy will walk out of class Wednesday to show their support for the Second Amendment.The event is called Stand for the Second and is happening in at least 39 other states across the U.S.The walkout comes after students around the country staged a walkout aimed at stopping gun violence and honoring the students killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In February, protesters nationwide left their classrooms and remained outside for 17 minutes to honor the 17 people gunned down.Will Riley, an 18 year old from New Mexico, started this event to support the lives saved by firearms.“Every year an estimated 1.5 million Americans use a firearm to defend themselves,” Riley said. “During a 16-minute walkout, that breaks down to 91 American lives saved during the walkout. We want Americans to know that firearms are overwhelmingly used for good in our country.”The participating students here in Tucson plan to walk out at 10 a.m. 1044

Taylor Swift is spreading the wealth this holiday season and helping some of those struggling to make ends meet during the coronavirus crisis.The pop star donated ,000 to two mothers who’ve fell behind on rent and other bills amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to multiple reports.NBC News and Billboard report that Swift decided to donate to the struggling mothers’ GoFundMe pages after reading about their situations in an article by The Washington Post.One of the mothers, Nikki Cornwell, told The Post that she was ,000 behind on rent and she feared that she’d be evicted right after Christmas. The Nashville-based mom says she lost her factory job in March and came down with COVID-19 in May. She had been receiving 5 a week of unemployment, but that just ended.According to Cornwell’s fundraising page, Swift donated to her on Wednesday and wrote that she’s brave for sharing her story.“I'm so sorry for everything you've had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another. Love, Taylor,” wrote Swift with her donation.The second mother, Shelbie Selewski, lives in Macomb County, Michigan. She told The Post that she was ,100 behind on rent and utilities after losing her job as a medical receptionist. TEMPE, Ariz. — An Arizona woman said a man posing as a Lyft driver tried luring her into his car. Around 9 p.m. Saturday, Bradie Trippi was waiting to be picked up in a parking lot in Tempe, Arizona. The Lyft app showed her driver was a minute away when a man in a gold Infiniti sedan pulled up next to her, she said. “He says, ‘I’m your Lyft’ and then took a phone, flashed it in my face,” Trippi told KNXV. She said the man showed her the passenger app — not the driver app — and the letter “f” of the “Lyft” emblem on his car was backward. Given the fact the man did not match the photo of her driver or description of her driver’s car, Trippi declined to get in the car. “He got aggressive,” she said. “Told me to get in the car, he’s gonna kill me, called me the ‘b word’, started yelling the ‘f word’ at me — I got kind of scared.”When her actual Lyft driver arrived, Trippi said the man sped off. Lyft and Uber spokespeople told KNXV that passengers should always check to make sure the photo of their driver, description of the vehicle and license plate match up before getting inside. Passengers should ask open-ended questions to their driver, like “who are you here to pick up?” Instead of “Are you here to pick up [name]?”Trippi and her actual Lyft driver described the imposter driver as a bald, African-American man with an accent. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An upcoming rule change at the U.S. Department of Justice means federal inmate executions, which are currently carried out by lethal injection could happen by other means, such as a firing squad or electrocution.Currently, all federal executions are done via lethal injection unless a court specifically orders otherwise. The rule change gives the federal government greater flexibility to execute people by other means.The change states that federal executions are to be carried out by lethal injection “or by any other manner prescribed by the law of the State in which the sentence was imposed or which has been designated by a court.”According to the Death Penalty Information Center, all states that allow the death penalty authorize a lethal injection method. Nine states allow electrocution, seven allow lethal gas and three allow a firing squad. Most states that allow methods other than lethal injection do so only under the provision that the injection is found to be unconstitutional, unavailable or impractical.The DOJ rule change goes into effect on Dec. 24, before three more federal inmates are scheduled to be executed. Inmates are scheduled to be executed on Jan. 12, Jan. 14 and Jan. 15.If executions by other means will happen, it’s unlikely they will happen at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute, where federal executions typically take place. The DOJ notice states that the Terre Haute complex is equipped for carrying out executions only by lethal injection.
