A woman in Illinois who tried to spike a toddler's sippy cup of milk with nail polish remover has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of Carol Stream, Illinois was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 13 earlier this year.In May 2016, Vazquez-Hernandez mixed "one inch" of nail polish remover with milk and gave it to her husband's daughter. The girl immediately spit out the milk when she tasted the nail polish remover and was taken to the hospital. She was later released, and tests later revealed that her milk had been spiked.The girl had been fathered by Vazquez-Hernandez's husband with another woman, and Vazquez-Hernandez reportedly tried to poison the girl in order to punish her father.During her sentencing, the Chicago Tribune reports that Vazquez-Hernandez told the judge that she thanked God that the child was OK, but the judge was reportedly concerned about Vazquez-Hernandez's "lack of remorse."Vazquez-Hernandez will be required to serve at least five years of her 10-year sentence before being released.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A woman who was seen slapping a police officer as she was carried out of a University of Miami football game has been charged with felony battery on a police officer and misdemeanor disorderly conduct, the Associated Press reported. According to Local 10, Miami-Dade Metro Police received the video shortly after Saturday's incident, and was in the process of investigating. In the video, Bridget Freitas, who was dressed in a Miami Hurricanes shirt, was being carried away by several police officers. She than slapped one of the officers in the face. The officer then responded by delivering a huge punch to the woman's face, to the surprise of the crowd. Video of the incident quickly spread Saturday night on social media.   770

After her 15-year-old son ended up "in critical and life-threatening condition" from an adenovirus outbreak at a New Jersey health care facility, one mother is suing those who she believes allowed her son to end up in the ICU, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday.Paula Costigan's son, William DelGrosso, was one of dozens of medically fragile children who were infected with the virus beginning in late September at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, New Jersey.As of Friday, 31 residents have been affected by the outbreak, including 10 deaths, according to the state health department. DelGrosso remains hospitalized.According to the lawsuit, DelGrosso came down with a fever on October 11 and was transferred to the intensive care unit at Hackensack University Medical Center on October 18 with "serious respiratory complications." He is still there now, according to the family's lawyer, Paul da Costa."As a mother, it's hard enough to not have your child under your own roof and have to trust and rely on a facility to care for your child," da Costa said, adding that Costigan "feels as if the facility was trying to hide the fact there was this serious virus spreading like wildfire." 1228

ALTADENA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Four off-duty marines along with a rescue team rescued a hiker having a medical emergency on a hiking trail near Los Angeles Sunday.According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a team received the rescue call around 4 p.m. Sunday near Switzer Falls.When the rescue team arrived, they found four off-duty marines from Camp Pendleton who had run into the hiker and carried him upstream for a quicker rescue.Officials say the hiker wasn’t injured and was taken to the hospital to recover.Watch he rescue video in the player below:  581
