Dan King told reporters, "I just want to give perspective on what it's like to be a firefighter and to have cancer. Unfortunately, that's me. Two years ago today. He said it's a huge help to address immediate concerns."This extracts diesel particulates from the apparatus floor, which we're in quite a bit of the time and it hooks up to the exhaust system, extracts particles out and gets it out of our air," Marcello said.One hope is that other neighborhoods will find ways to reduce cancer risks for their firefighters as well. 2059

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The man accused of killing his parents and sister in a Logan Heights house fire pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday. Wilber Romero, 26, is facing charges that include first-degree murder and arson in the October 13 blaze. The fire started around 4:30 a.m. on the 3100 block of Clay Street. 44-year-old Jose Romero died at the scene while his wife and daughter, Nicolasa Maya-Romero, 46, and Iris Romero, 21, died at the hospital in the days following the blaze.The family’s 23-year-old daughter remains hospitalized. A 16-year-old son, who was injured when he escaped out a window, was released following treatment. Wilber is being held on million bail and faces life in prison if convicted. Court documents show the fire wasn’t the first time he allegedly targeted his family. Wilber reportedly attacked his father with a brick and rocks and damaged his car in September of 2018.The incident prompted a police standoff that ended when police shot bean bags at Wilber and released a police dog, documents show.The documents go on to state Wilber was in a car accident when he was 6-years-old and that he has suffered from a learning disability since the crash.According to the documents, Wilber also struggled with drug addiction. 1461

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The International Olympic Committee and Japanese government made an historic announcement Tuesday to postpone the 2020 summer Olympic games in Tokyo due to the coronavirus.Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed on Twitter that the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic games have been delayed until no later than summer 2021.The announcement left several San Diegan Olympic hopefuls dashed of any immediate Olympic dreams."It's kind of hard to wrap your head around it because you have been training so long for this one moment," Allison Halverson said back in Februaray.Her tone changed Tuesday."I was kind of like, 'Ok. That's good to know.' Now I can kind of refocus and figure out how to train for that," Halverson said.Swimmer Michael Chadwick says the lack of open pools is sidelining any training, making competition right now even less of a possibility."Too much has happened too quickly for us to really understand what the ramifications of it all are," Chadwick said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Border Patrol is working to upgrade the fence that sits along the U.S.-Mexico border as more and more people attempt to cut through the barrier, forcing agents to spend time making repairs.According to the agency, an average of 540 cuts are made in the fence per year. Border Patrol says some tools enable crossers to cut through the fence in as little as 20 seconds.The agency added that, since 2016, the number of arrests at the border has seen a sharp increase. In 2016, 26,000 arrests were made.
