Scripps Company, based in Cincinnati, Ohio announced it has added two television stations to its business, bringing its current total to 35 stations in 26 markets.The stations purchased are ABC affiliates KXXV/KRHD in Waco, Texas, and WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida. Both were owned by Raycom Media."These two stations are strategic additions to our portfolio," said Brian Lawlor, President, Local Media."We have been interested in expanding into Texas for some time as we believe Texas will play an important part in U.S. politics moving forward," Lawlor said of the KXXV/KRHD purchase.Scripps owns WFTS in Tampa, WFTX in Fort Myers and WPTV in West Palm Beach, making WTXL its fourth in the state."The addition of Tallahassee will allow us to better cover the state's politics as we expand our reach beyond 50 percent of Florida’s television households," Lawlor said in a memo to Scripps employees.The announcement follows Scripps’ news Aug. 15 that it has completed the sale of its 34 radio stations for .5 million.Scripps' stations are affiliated with all of the Big Four television networks: ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. The purchase of the two new stations adds 130 employees to The E.W. The city attorney is cracking down on independent living facilities that are posing a danger to their residents - and potentially neighbors.City Attorney Mara Elliott's office is investigating about two-dozen of these facilities and prosecuting the operators of six, the office announced Wednesday. The facilities, often inside single-family homes, are unregulated and unlicensed. They provide physically and mentally disabled persons a last chance to avoid homelessness. But Elliott said the operators often take advantage of residents. She said this came onto her radar after investigating a home last year. "It was a horrible situation where 11 individuals were essentially being held captive in this home and didn't have sanitary facilities," she said. "The shower facilities were covered in feces, they didn't have food they didn't have ventilation, they didn't have access to telephones."On Wednesday, Elliott's office announced charges against two more facilities, one on Parkbrook Lane in Skyline and another on Brandywood Street in North Bay Terraces. Operators and owners are charged with violations including vermin infestations, blocked exists, improper plumbing, and fire hazards. People who live near the Parkbrook Lane home described shouting in the middle of the night, verbal harassment, physical fighting and graffiti. "We moved because of it," said one neighbor, whose first name was Tammy. The home had trash and old mattresses on the property. The owner, Evelyn Louise Peters, said the issues identified were only one-time instances and the trash accumulated after the home was vacated. Sherry Lynn Bennett, who manages the home in North Bay Terraces, said the issues are being dealt with."The owners have been doing all the repairs, everything is done, everything's back to normal, we've done everything the city's said," Bennett said. Bennett and Peters are charged with 22 misdemeanor violations of the health, safety and municipal codes.There is no telling how many of these facilities exist in the county. In December, a man living in an El Cajon independent living home was beaten to death with a frying pan. The Environmental Protection Agency announced on Monday that some Lysol products could kill COVID-19 on surfaces in just two minutes.In a press release, the agency said that Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist could effectively kill the coronavirus.“EPA is committed to identifying new tools and providing accurate and up-to-date information to help the American public protect themselves and their families from the novel coronavirus,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler in the release. “EPA's review of products tested against this virus marks an important milestone in President Trump’s all of the government approach to fighting the spread of COVID-19."The agency said the Lysol products were the first products that had been reviewed by its laboratory testing data and approved label claims. 834
