VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while she rode in an ambulance. The California Highway Patrol launched an investigation into the Feb. 21, 2017 incident involving 34-year-old David Carpio, a private ambulance company employee. The girl was being transported to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside when Carpio assaulted her and asked for her Snapchat information to start a relationship with her, investigators said. A CHP investigator posing as the girl communicated with Carpio through social media and text messages over several months, during which time officials gained damaging information. Other alleged female victims also came forward with claims against Carpio, saying he had sexually assaulted them when he was their neighbor. One of the women was 16 years old at the time of the encounter. Carpio pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges and was sentenced Thursday for sexual penetration of a minor and sexual battery. 1022

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has agreed to review a court decision that the NCAA has said blurred “the line between student-athletes and professionals.” A lower court ruling removed caps on education-related money that certain football and basketball players can receive. The case will be argued before the Supreme Court in 2021 with a decision expected before the end of June. The NCAA contends that antitrust law allows its member schools to impose certain restrictions, like on athlete compensation, in an effort to promote competitive equity and have a product for dans that is distinct from professional sports, according to USA Today. The NCAA claims a change to this arrangement would have larger implications on professional level sports leagues. An appeals court panel in May upheld a lower court ruling barring the NCAA from capping education-related compensation and benefits for student-athletes in Division I football and basketball programs. Such benefits could include cash payments for academic performance. The lower court's ruling said the NCAA could still set limits on compensation not connected to education. The association has revealed proposed rule changes that would allow athletes to make money from their names, images and likeness. Those proposed changes are set to be voted on in January. VISTA (CNS) - A man who fatally beat his cousin in the front yard of an Oceanside home was convicted Thursday of second-degree murder.Joel Cardona, 37, was found guilty for the Aug. 2, 2018, death of Nestor Jurado, 37, following a trial that began last week at the Vista courthouse. A sentencing date has not yet been set, but the second-degree murder conviction means Cardona faces at least 15 years to life in state prison.Cardona was arrested on the morning of Aug. 2 during a tussle with Jurado in front of a home on Arthur Avenue, according to police and prosecutors. Walmart is looking to go green by 2040.The world's largest retailer announced they plan to electrify and eliminate emissions from all of its vehicles, including long-haul trucks. They also want to transition to low-impact refrigerants for cooling and powering its equipment to heat its stores, clubs, and data and distribution centers to reach zero emissions."We want to play an important role in transforming the world's supply chains to be regenerative.
