More than two months after Bed Bath & Beyond announced they were closing about 200 stores in the next few years, they are sharing the first 60 or so that will close by the end of the year.In July, when they made the announcement, Bed Bath & Beyond said they had to close about 90 percent of their stores during the coronavirus pandemic and in-store sales were down 77 percent.Before the pandemic, the company closed 40 stores in the first part of 2020.The additional 200 represent about 20 percent of Bed Bath & beyond stores. He’s been teaching students online since the pandemic hit.“A lot of people are inspired to teach themselves a new skill or rather to work on a new skill, and take up a lot of the time they’re finding they have on their hands during these troubled times here,” he said.Recently, Hughes’ student base has grown from children to an older audience.“I’ve had at least about 75% more adults show up on my schedule these days,” he said.People like health care worker Janae Martinez, who started playing her guitar again while staying safe a home“It was very therapeutic for me in general,” she said of playing music. “So, I knew that I needed it again during the pandemic.”The mother of two says practicing playing helps her focus on things other than the virus.“It heals. (KGTV) — Marine Corps Air Station Miramar held an annual mass casualty drill Tuesday ahead of this year's Miramar Air Show.The scenario, centered around an F-35 crashing off the end of the runway into the crowd, included about 20 people playing the part of the injured, complete with fake blood and shrapnel wounds."Getting everybody together is very crucial because one fire department, or one hospital, or one ambulance company cannot handle a large scale incident with a lot of patients," MCAS Miramar Fire Captain Paul Jacobs said.WHAT TO KNOW: MCAS Miramar Air Show 2019The importance is paramount as accidents have happened in the past. In October of 2004, a stunt pilot completed a loop too low and crashed into the flight line, wrecking the plane and ultimately killing the pilot.The base is also set to receive several F-35 aircraft this January.The annual drill helps the base, military personnel, firefighters and local ambulance companies work together and see if there are any weak points. NATIONAL CITY, Calif., (KGTV)-- Residents and business owners in the South Bay are bracing for another round of floods. They have already seen flooding on 18th Street in National City this week, caused by the king tides. Now with the rain, many expect it to be worse. According to FEMA, businesses near West 18th Street and Roosevelt Ave. are right in a low-elevation flood zone. Ocean water travels from the San Diego Bay, up the Sweetwater Channel, and into Paradise Creek. That creek backs right into Jose's Auto Electric yard. Wednesday morning, the city shut down the road because of flooded streets caused by King Tides. During the day, luckily, the water receded before reaching the front door at Jose's Auto Electric. Check 10News Pinpoint Weather The combination of rain and king tides reminded employee Alma Ramirez of last year's disaster. She remembered 30 inches of rainwater gushing into her office and destroying her equipment. "We lost a lot of stuff, and I remembered that I forgot my purse," Ramirez said. "I said, 'Oh my purse!' And I tried to come back, but in less than five minutes, the water was already up. And I said 'Forget about it, just let me get out of here.'"If the flooding gets worse, Ramirez said she may have to move all of the low profile cars in their shop to another location to avoid flood damage for their customers.Meanwhile, neighboring businesses closer to Paradise Creek have already put up sandbags to protect their front office doors and garages. Ramirez hopes it does not get to that point for her shop.The National Weather Services estimates the Flash Flood Watch to continue through 10 p.m. Thursday. More than 900 people in 48 states have been sickened with salmonella, and at least one person has died, likely caused by backyard poultry like chickens and ducks.While outbreaks of salmonella from backyard poultry is not uncommon, the number of cases this year is higher than normal, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They report 15 multi-state outbreak strains currently being investigated.Since June 24, 473 more people have gotten sick according to CDC’s data, for a total of 938 people infected with salmonella so far this year. Roughly 33 percent of those who got sick had to be hospitalized. The one reported death was in Oklahoma.At the end of July 2019, 768 people in this country had gotten sick from salmonella linked to live poultry.The CDC was able to interview about 400 patients this year, and of those, 74 percent reported having contact with chicks or ducklings. Testing from backyard poultry environments in Kentucky and Oregon identified three of the outbreak strains.The CDC recommends frequent handwashing with soap and water whenever a backyard poultry animal is touched or handled, or their eggs or habitat is touched. They also warn against letting backyard poultry inside the house, especially in areas where food is prepared. 1285
