SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Local window washers put on tights, capes, and masks to cheer up and surprise patients at Rady Children’s Hospital on Halloween.The team of superheroes not only wiped away dirt but shared some smiles for Halloween.“It means the world to these kids, just to see them and it brightens up their day a little bit,” said Kelly Mikulsky, whose daughter is fighting Leukemia.The window washers, from A-Plus Window Cleaning in El Cajon, dawned the iconic costumes of Spider-Man, Superman, Captain America, and others as they washed the building's windows from inside and outside.This is the 2nd year they’ve surprised the Rady Children's patients on Halloween. 689

Although real trees keep your home looking festive throughout the month of December, they also pose a fire risk. Between 2013 and 2017, fire departments across the country responded to an average of 160 house fires that started with Christmas trees per year, according to the National Fire Protection Agency. Those fires caused an average of three deaths, 15 injuries and million in direct property damage annually. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two men convicted of leading a home-invasion robbery spree with five other people were sentenced to prison terms Friday.A judge sentenced 26-year-old Thomas James Smith to 85 years plus 50 years to life in prison and 22-year-old Aaron Rico III to 35 years plus 25 years to life in prison for their roles the series of violent break-ins.Smith and Rico were convicted of conspiracy to commit burglary, robbery, burglary and sexual assault in June. The violent crime spree began on January 23. The series of crimes included breaking into homes, tying up and assaulting homeowners, and in one case, sexually assaulting a woman. RELATED: 680
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With record-breaking temperatures Labor Day weekend, the usual holiday crowd grew larger for San Diego beaches. However, not everyone wanted to join the masses.“But right now it’s so crowded, so crowded and I prefer to avoid that,” said El Cajon resident Celso Patricio.He filled up gallons of water at a water station in East County in preparation. He jokingly said the chore is welcomed in the triple-digit heat.“Yeah it’s warm it’s hot, agreed, but that’s why I’m washing my car here, I can wash my car, take a bath, take a shower, save electricity it’s great,” said Schallock.Hot temperatures could break records throughout the holiday weekend. Coastal areas will see highs in the 90s for Saturday and Sunday, and just a few miles inland highs will jump into the 100s, even the mountains. Deserts will be close to 120 for about the third time this summer. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday. It includes inland valleys to the mountains.The heat prompted a state-wide flex alert for the weekend. According to the California Independent System Operator, the flex alert goes into effect Saturday, Sept. 5, and lasts through Monday, Sept. 7.
