A judge has decided a university was justified in moving an event by conservative commentator Ben Shapiro to a smaller venue for safety concerns, according to reports.Shapiro, a lawyer, former Breitbart editor and author of several books, was scheduled to speak at the University of Minnesota in February 2018.The group that requested Shapiro’s appearance, Students for a Conversative Voice, requested the use of a large, 1,000+ seat venue on the Minneapolis campus. However, University officials at the time decided the event needed to be held at a venue on the St. Paul campus that seats less than 500 people because of security concerns. The student group claimed in their lawsuit against the university the venue change resulted in limiting the number of people who could attend and denying them the ability to participate in the event.A judge on Friday threw out the lawsuit, according to the Pioneer Press, saying the university had legitimate safety concerns because of other incidents after Shapiro events on other campuses.Large crowds of protesters have appeared at Shapiro events, some resulting in arrests. At a September 2017 event in Berkeley, California, part of the area around campus was closed down and barriers erected to handle demonstrators; several people were arrested during the incident. The University of Minnesota reportedly spent ,000 on security for their event in February 2018. 1417

A Florida mother says her daughter was denied lunch on the first day of school because she didn't have money to pay a 15 cent debt.Kimberly Aiken told WKMG-TV in Orlando that her daughter, a sophomore at University High School in Orange City, Florida, was told that she owed 15 cents when she went through the lunch line on the first day of school this week. When she told the cashier that she didn't have any money on her, the cashier allegedly threw the food away.Aiken's daughter did not eat anything for the rest of the school day.According to CBS News, Aiken signed her daughter up for a free and reduced-cost lunch program at University High School. However, the program hadn't taken effect yet. Aiken suspects that the 15 cent deficit was carried over from last year.A spokesperson for the Volusia County Public Schools said the district has contacted the family directly about the issue.Aiken's daughter reportedly brought a quarter to school the next day to cover the deficit and was told the shortage had been taken care of.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. A fashion designer had broken the record for largest afro for a female by three inches. Simone Williams’ hair measures 4 feet 10 inches in circumference, according to Guinness World Records.Williams has been growing her hair out for about 9 years, but she didn’t start wearing an afro with the record in mind. She told Guinness she got perms and straightened her hair in middle school to fit in, and wore her hair straight until college."I chose to transition [to natural hair] around the age of 23. It began because I wanted to save the money spent at the hair salon to help with the costs of moving into my first apartment,” Williams said in a release from Guinness. "The process was very difficult at first since I was accustomed to wearing my hair straight and I didn’t know how to manage my natural hair texture."Williams says it takes about 6 hours for her hair to dry, and she washes it about once a week. “I use a lot of conditioner because it helps detangle my hair. I section my hair into 4 twists while in shower,” she said."When my hair is fully styled and big and voluminous I get a lot of stares, a lot of comments, lots of compliments – I want to think that everything is positive, but there are some people who stare like they have no idea what’s going on or what they’re looking at,” Williams said.Williams said she was inspired by the previous record holder, Aevin Dugas, who held the women’s record for largest afro since 2012 with a circumference of 4 feet 7 inches.Dugas says as her hair has gotten longer, it’s gotten heavier and doesn’t stand out as much. She plans to get some layers cut and hopes to be in the running again for the largest afro."Rocking a natural ‘fro is something that really symbolizes your pride in being Black. And I feel like whenever I wear my hair very big and beautiful, I just feel that pride within me,” Williams said. Adding, “Styling my hair like this is a silent reflection of who I am as a Black woman, it’s dynamic, it’s larger than life, and it’s fun! Sometimes I leave the house and if I have on a plain outfit, my hair will be my biggest accessory.” 2117
