Vanderbilt University has launched an investigation after several students and faculty members received a racist email promoting white supremacy. Monday night, students went sent an email asking them to subscribe to a white supremacist email list. At this point, it appears that the email only went out to certain students who are part of a black on-campus fraternity organization.The N-word was used in the email and was followed by a sentence reading, "White Pride at Vanderbilt and Worldwide."Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Vanderbilt officials Tweeted about the incident, saying it was "absolutely unacceptable." 633
Uber says it's in contact with the FBI after it emerged that the suspect in the deadly truck attack in New York City was one of the company's drivers.Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, originally from Uzbekistan, has been living in the U.S. since 2010, law enforcement sources told CNN. Uber said he started driving for the ride-hailing app in New Jersey just over six months ago.The 29-year-old is accused of using a rented pickup truck to mow down cyclists on a busy bike path near the World Trade Center in Manhattan on Tuesday. TUCSON, Arizona — A Tucson, Arizona man who had been in an altercation fired a gun at a police officers, hitting one of the officer's belt. The belt prevented a bullet from entering his body.That man, 51-year-old Roy King, was in a bar with his wife and family when an argument started. King's stepson, who was at the bar, called 9-1-1.During the argument in the bar, King allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened two people. King then headed to his home.Tucson police officers went to the home in response to the 9-1-1 call and found King's vehicle in the driveway. When the officers approached the car, King started to yell at them from the backyard. He still had the handgun.During the confrontation between King and two officers, gunfire was exchanged. One of the rounds fired by King hit an officer's duty belt. The belt stopped the bullet from injuring the officer.King then went inside his home and called 9-1-1. Additional TPD officers went to the home and were able to talk King into coming outside. He was not injured and was taken into custody.Roy King was booked into Pima County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One for the incident at the bar, and one for the incident at the home.The incident is still under investigation. 1310
Two well-known slackliners from Utah have taken credit for dismantling the infamous "monolith" that gained international fame after it was discovered last week.Andy Lewis of Moab, Utah, said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that he was part of the group that knocked down the monolith last week. He also confirmed his involvement in text messages with the Salt Lake Tribune."On the night of November 27, 2020, at about 8:30pm — our team removed the Utah Monolith," Lewis wrote in a Facebook post. "We will not be including any other information, answers, or insight at this time."Lewis' Facebook post linked to a YouTube video that included photos of the removal. 669
Tyler Glenn, lead singer of the popular band Neon Trees, is recovering after suffering a stroke last week.In a post to Instagram on Monday, Glenn, 36, said that he woke up Thursday feeling "foggy and not seeing clearly out of my right eye."Glenn wrote that he held off going to the hospital to see if his condition would improve, but visited an ophthalmologist when he woke up the next morning feeling the same way.The doctor found a retinal edema in Glenn's eye and told him he had suffered a stroke. Glenn was admitted to Intermountain Medical Center for cardiology and neurological tests."I’m quite freaked out being 36, ostensibly healthy and having this happen." said Glenn. "I’m still awaiting reasons why, although my labs and the results show a clean bill of health in my heart and blood."Glenn says he still has cloudy vision in his eye, but was told the condition could dissipate.Glenn ended the post with a health recommendation for all his fans."I appreciate the love and support, and hope I can at least get an answer as to why this occurred. If you ever feel or experience something in your body that feels off, please don’t wait to get it checked out.
