But while frustration is setting in, CIF is doing everything it can to get the kids back on the field. There's nothing like high school football and the sights and sounds of Friday Night Lights, or a slam dunk on the basketball court. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19, it's wait-and-see for every high school athlete."I think it's very disappointing. Are kids, are families, are schools and communities have been waiting quite a long time and it's been tough," says San Diego Section CIF Commissioner Joe Heinz.There was hope of a December start, but as COVID-19 surged, it was negated by the California Department of Public Health. "It's definitely a fine balance across the nation as different things are happening," Heinz said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flu cases are almost three times higher in 2017 than in the previous years, said the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency Wednesday.So far this year, three people have died from influenza A. Feeding San Diego is helping bridge the hunger gap in hopes of making it easier for active-duty military, their families, and veterans to get the food they need and deserve. Desiree Mieir is a mom of four. Her husband is currently serving his tenth year in the Navy. She says the high cost of living in San Diego makes it tough to survive here. "It's several dollars of a difference as far as gas goes. Milk, eggs, all your basic necessities," said Mieir. "If we want to go on a day trip, we have to make room in the budget for that." Now, every month, the family gets access to free food at Dewey Elementary School, one of Feeding San Diego's distribution sites. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fifty-three undocumented immigrants were arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement over the last week in San Diego County.Arrests took place in Santee, Vista, Encinitas, Chula Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, Imperial Beach, and San Diego, according to ICE officials.The five-day operation targeted individuals with final orders of removal, who have re-entered illegally after being removed, who have violated federal law, or whose detainers were not honored and were located after release from jail.RELATED: ICE arrests 115 immigrants in Southern CaliforniaOfficials said of the 44 arrested, criminal histories included vandalism, hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and other drug offenses.
