A new study states that calculating every dog year isn't equal to 7 human years.That's because your dog ages differently than you.Researchers at the University of California San Diego’s school of medicine said in a news release that a 1-year-old dog is similar to a 30-year-old person. But a 4-year-old pup is identical to a 52-year-old human."The formula is based on the changing patterns of methyl groups in dog and human genomes — how many of these chemical tags and where they’re located — as they age," researchers said in the release. "Since the two species don’t age at the same rate over their lifespans, it turns out it’s not a perfectly linear comparison, as the 1:7 years rule-of-thumb would suggest."This graph formula, which was created from the study, will match up the age of your dog with the comparable human age.Lead researcher Trey Ideker said that dogs that are younger age faster compared to humans.“This makes sense when you think about it — after all, a nine-month-old dog can have puppies, so we already knew that the 1:7 ratio wasn’t an accurate measure of age," Ideker said.For the new study, which was published in the journal Cell Systems, samples of blood from 105 Labrador retrievers were studied.Researchers plan to study other dog breeds to see if their method holds up. 1359

(KGTV) — It was a heart-pounding moment at a North County gas station after a homeless woman gave birth inside the bathroom. “I just seen some lady come out with a baby saying 'we need help this lady just gave birth',” said clerk Alex Ascencio. Ascencio had just started his shift Wednesday when the woman came inside of the store. When Ascencio saw the baby, he jumped into action, tending to the baby and dialing 911. “I just sat her down and make sure she had a pulse and that she was breathing; she was perfectly fine.”Ascencio says the woman tried to leave the store without the baby, but he convinced her to stay until paramedics arrived. Ascencio says he aspires to be a paramedic and his co-workers are praising him for his quick thinking. 770

(KGTV) -- After a trip to visit their grandma in Ohio, eight year old Lilly and 12 year old Zachary were driving back to California with their mom and grandma when a wrong-way driver hit their car head-on in Oklahoma, killing all four of them. The wrong-way driver, identified by Oklahoma authorities as 33-year-old Ashley Louise Ricks, survived the crash.Monday, Oklahoma authorities gave an update, saying witnesses smelled alcohol at the scene of the crash. Witnesses and 911 calls also reveal the woman was driving at a high rate of speed and in the wrong direction for at least nine miles before the fatal crash occurred. Authorities said they’re currently investigating her medical history, driver history and taking blood samples before making any charges.The family was driving back to Vista, near San Diego, so Lilly could make it back home in time for school to resume. A GoFundMe created by a family friend shows the kids called their dad and stepmom every day while on vacation, telling them about the fun they’d had on their trip.Sam Homant, the kids’ dad, and their stepmom Melissa Starnes said the last time they talked to their son, it was the night of the crash.“He was excited to come home. We had just got him a brand new bed, a brand new bed that he was just so excited for, this pillow top mattress and he was so excited. And that was the last thing that we said to him,” said Starnes.They described the kids as family oriented and special. Zachary had a creative and kind heart.“He could take Legos and create anything out of Legos. He loved to build, just a smart smart little boy. Very creative. Wanted to be an architect. His imagination was off the rack,” they said.Lilly had similar passions to many little girls her age, but also loved to ride her dad’s motorcycle with him.“She loved makeup and dancing and her dolls. Mitt Romney of Utah and Chuck Grassley of Iowa for clues to whether they will support any effort to approve a Supreme Court justice before November's election. President Donald Trump and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are moving quickly to set up a nominee, confirmation hearings and a vote to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Democrats oppose a Trump appointment so close to an election.
