Federal prosecutors Friday requested that Donald Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen receive "a substantial term of imprisonment" for various finance-related crimes.In separate filings, prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller's office and the Southern District of New York outlined their cases for Cohen's future.In August, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight federal crimes after being charged by Manhattan federal prosecutors. Federal investigators are looking into whether a huge wildfire near Los Angeles was sparked by Southern California Edison utility equipment. Edison says it has turned over a section of an overhead conductor from the utility’s facility near a dam in the area where the Bobcat Fire started Sept. 6. The initial report of fire was near Cogswell Dam at 12:21 p.m. Sept. 6. The utility says five minutes earlier, at 12:16 p.m., a circuit at the substation experienced a possible disturbance or event. Edison says cameras captured smoke developing in the area around 12:10 p.m., prior to the activity on Edison’s circuit.As of Thursday, there are still 26 ongoing wildfires in California being fought by 18,200 firefighters. In the last six weeks, fires have consumed 6,700 buildings and have killed 26 people. Crews say that cooler weather in the state is helping firefighters make progress on the wildfires, which have consumed 3.6 million acres of land in the state since the start of the year. 999

ENCINITAS, Calif., (KGTV) — Law enforcement agencies all around San Diego are working to find out if there are any more overdoses tied to mysterious blue pills that killed four people in East County this week. The pills are advertised as having a "painkiller high."An Encinitas mother, Lisa Nava was watching 10News this morning when she found out about the mysterious blue pills. She recognized them as the same pills her son took before he died three months ago.The memories of her son make her laugh. But the way he died brings Nava to tears. "Your biggest job in your life is to protect your child. I couldn't protect mine," Nava cried.Last year, her son Alex Morgan Nava had a skateboarding accident. He broke his knee, then his ankle. Doctors prescribed him oxycodone for this pain. Little did he know that would lead to an opioid addiction that would eventually kill him. On April 5, 2019, her Alex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 24 years old. The last three months have been hell for the Nava family. But Friday morning, she saw a particular report on 10News. It was 10News anchor Virginia Cha saying, "Deputies connected some blue pills to the deaths of four people and just 24 hours."She immediately recognized the "blue pills." They were the same pills she confiscated from her son earlier this year. "I had to flush them down the toilet, and that was in January. They were those M-30's. The blue pills," Nava vividly remembered. Since then, the Nava family worked together to help Alex. They took him to the emergency room on multiple occasions. They sent him to a 30-day rehab facility. But Alex was too hooked. "He just made a wrong turn and couldn't turn around. He ran out of time," Nava said. His cause of death was 'Acute polydrug intoxication: Combined effects of acetaminophen and fentanyl-- The tiniest dose of one of the deadliest drugs."We thought he would be one of the lucky ones. But we didn't know that we were dealing with fentanyl," Nava cried.According to the Health and Human Services, around 130 people in America die of opioid overdoses every day. Alex is now one of them. But Nava says your loved one does not have to be if you are vigilant."You never know the last time you were going to see your child," Nava said. "Even the best most advantage children fall victim to these addictions. Check in on them. It's not anything to be casual about. This is an emergency."10News asked all the neighboring law enforcement agencies to see if they found any cases of Blue pill overdoses or deaths. Most of them said they are looking into it. (KGTV) - California's nearly 3-year-old ban on single-use plastic bags may be having an unintended impact: a spike in shoplifting.In late June at Major Market in Escondido - just before closing time - two women are recorded sauntering down the liquor aisle, before they begin stuffing their bags. "They're putting in our high-end champagne. About a bottle," said night manager John Kuper.By the time they're done, they collect seven bottles of champagne and one bottle of vodka."They didn't establish eye contact when I said goodbye to them. Their purses looked awfully full," said Kuper.Kuper says when he later looked at the video, he saw them walk out without paying. "Makes me sick to my stomach. That's your profit coming out of the registers there ... We believe the same women may have come in a month before and stolen champagne," says Kuper.Kuper's market is not the only one feeling the pain, as these scenes become more and more common. The Neighborhood Market Association estimates shoplifting losses at local groceries has climbed from 25% to 30% since the ban became law in 2016. Kuper says with so many customers now bringing in their own bags, spotting shoplifters is a big challenge."If they walk out with their own bags, we can't check every bag," said Kuper.Hiring extra security at the door is pricey and risks alienating customers.
