SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After years of setbacks and construction, part of One Paseo is getting ready to open its doors in Carmel Valley. The company behind the project plans to open the multi-concept development in phases, with the retail space scheduled to open first in the beginning of March. The residential area is set to open in the summer of 2019 with offices on the property following in 2020. The City Council approved the much larger original project in 2015, but it was overturned after opponents collected 60,000 signatures on a petition. Council members urged the project's developer, Kilroy Realty, and its opponents to reach a compromise.The downsized One Paseo project was approved by San Diego’s City Council 8-1 in mid 2016. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A simple gesture of kindness can make someone’s day or even save a life. “This one is Detecting Divas.” It all began with a book club. “That one is sisters of sleuth.”That Evie Arnold began hosting for seniors over a decade ago. “It’s all mysteries.”The women are all over 60.“There are so may single women that don’t have anybody, that I decided they should email me every day or text me every day just so I know everybody is ok.”But a couple of months ago, one of those emails didn’t come in.“I was making the change from landline to smartphone, but there was a glitch, I was without a telephone, deathy ill with no one to contact anybody.”Bookclub member Susan Lipp laid in her bed with no food, no water, just fear.“When you’re alone and you live alone with no family, I lay there and I thought after a couple days or so, I’m not going to get out of this. And I hope someone takes care of my kitties.”Evie called for a wellness check, and Susan was rushed to the hospital with a critical gastrointestinal condition.“She literally saved my life.”“It feels good to know that I’m 73 years old and I can still do good, be useful.”But that wasn’t the first time her compassion saved a life.When one neighbor's newspapers began stacking up, she knocked on the door only to hear the dogs barking and called for another welfare check.“I ran into her kids in the front yard and talked about time. I called the police on her, and they said you saved her life!”She urges everyone to pay attention to their neighbors, especially seniors.“Most police departments have volunteers that will take a look, and you might end up saving someone’s life too.”Susan believes everyone should join a book club. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Serra Mesa family expecting nearly ,000 in stimulus funds in April is still waiting.Mark Perry, who is married with four children, says his family was expecting a big stimulus check. Both he and his wife still have their jobs, but the check will come in handy."Really looking forward to getting the check. I was looking at a check coming fairly quickly, a direct deposit coming of 00," said Perry.Quickly, because Perry had the same bank account for the last 18 years, his IRS refund received via direct deposit every year, including one in April. Taxpayers like Perry should have received their checks during the week of April 13th, a week which came and went for Perry."Halfway through May, I realized something is really up here," said Perry.That's when Perry started logging onto the IRS 'Check My Payment' link, over and over. Hundreds of times."I probably tried a dozen times just last night. The result is always the same," said Perry.That result was this."Got an error message. Either can't verify or don't qualify. None of those things are correct," said Perry.Perry says when he called the number designated by the IRS for 'Economic Impact Payment' questions, he got nowhere."You end up in the same loop, back in the same place where you started from. There's no one you can actually speak to," said Perry.He's written politicians, and every day, he logs onto the IRS site. And he's not alone."I know of two other people in the exact same position I am. I'm frustrated mostly with the IRS website platform, which seems broken to me," said Perry.According to the IRS, 159 million Americans have received their stimulus payments with paper checks still being mailed out in June.An IRS spokesperson told 10news they are asking for patience from the public and continue to working on getting "up to speed" with the online platform. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Amazon announced Tuesday it will create more than 200 new jobs in San Diego as part of a national expansion of its Tech Hubs.In a news release, company officials said plans are in place to expand offices in San Diego, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, New York, and Phoenix, which would lead to the potential addition of 3,500 new jobs.According to the company, there are more than 70 open tech and corporate roles in the San Diego area.With the addition of new tech and corporate jobs in San Diego, Amazon said it would add more than 40,000 square feet of office space near the UC San Diego campus.Some of the ventures being worked on at Amazon’s San Diego Tech Hub include games via Amazon Game Studios and a project that involves the launch of “Low Earth Orbit” satellites.Igor von Nyssen, Site Lead at the San Diego Tech Hub, said, “Amazon’s continued growth in our San Diego Tech Hub and the creation of these 200 new jobs is a testament to the strong and diverse pool of tech talent in this community.
